Abstract:

Although the high infection rate of microscopic sarcocyst occurs in cattle, to the best of our knowledge, there is no report about the identification of macroscopic sarcocyst in Iran. In this work, Sarcosystis hirsutawas first isolated from slaughtered cattle. In a 2-year-old slaughtered cattle, morphological examinationrevealed 3-5 mm in length cysts distributed in different striated muscles, particularly intercostalis anddiaphragm. In electron microscopy study, ultramicroscopic structure of primary cyst wall based on thepresence of cone-shaped villar protrusions confirmed the occurrence of S. hirsuta.

Sarcocystis cruzi: First molecular identification from cattle in Iran

Sarcocystis is a genus of cyst-forming parasites infecting both animals and human. This study aimed to isolate coccidian tissue cysts from muscle of infected animals by a simple method in addition to molecular identification of Sarcocystis cruzi from the samples. The samples were obtained from commercial source in Babol, Northern Iran. Five grams of calf muscle was cut into 2-3 pieces in 30 ml ...

First molecular identification of Sarcocystis hirsuta in Iranian beef: A case report

Introduction: The main agents of sarcocystosis in cattle as an intermediate host include S. cruzi, S. hominis and S. hirsuta. A sensitive and specific tool such as molecular-based techniques would be necessary to identify the species. Case report: After collection of beef sample from Yazd slaughterhouse, DNA extraction was done with salting out method. The 18SrRNA gene as a specific target ...

First isolation of Sarcocystis hominis from cattle in Japan.

Sarcocystis hominis was first isolated from slaughtered cattle raised in Japan. Cysts were 1,220-4,460 x 80-384 microns in size and their wall was 3 to 6 microns thick and appeared radially striated in the histopathological sections because of the presence of palisade-like villar protrusions on the surface. The protrusions were 3.1-4.3 x 0.7-1.1 microns in size and had many microtubules in the ...
