Abstract:

The pteridophyte account of Flora Iranica (ed. K.H. Rechinger) is still not published. The Caspian forests provide suitable habitats for the growth of many ferns and fern allies in Iran. In semi-arid and mountainous areas of Iran, mesophilous plants are restricted to rock crevices, waterfall proximity, stream banks and lake shores. Based on field collections and study of herbarium specimens in Iranian herbaria, an updated and annotated inventory of the Iranian ferns and fern allies is provided with an identification key, original line-drawings and/or photographs of most species, and distribution maps. Altogether 52 species are known in 26 genera and 15 families, viz.

Recent Taxonomic Changes for Oregon Ferns and Fern Allies

Readers of Kalmiopsis were recently treated to a synopsis of taxonomic changes affecting flowering plants in Oregon (Chambers, 1992). The present article has been written to update readers on nomenclatural changes recently proposed for the seedless vascular plants, which include not only ferns, but also horsetails, club-mosses, and their relatives. Together these groups are often referred to as...

Two New Fern Chloroplasts and Decelerated Evolution Linked to the Long Generation Time in Tree Ferns

We report the chloroplast genomes of a tree fern (Dicksonia squarrosa) and a "fern ally" (Tmesipteris elongata), and show that the phylogeny of early land plants is basically as expected, and the estimates of divergence time are largely unaffected after removing the fastest evolving sites. The tree fern shows the major reduction in the rate of evolution, and there has been a major slowdown in t...
