Fast Unsupervised Automobile Insurance Fraud Detection Based on Spectral Ranking of Anomalies
Authors
Abstract:
Collecting insurance fraud samples is costly and if performed manually is very time consuming. This issue suggests usage of unsupervised models. One of the accurate methods in this regards is Spectral Ranking of Anomalies (SRA) that is shown to work better than other methods for auto insurance fraud detection specifically. However, this approach is not scalable to large samples and is not appropriate for online fraud detection. This is while, real-time fraud management systems are necessary to prevent huge losses. In this study, we propose an implementation methodology which makes it possible to apply the SRA for big data senarios. We exploit the power of spectral ranking of anomalies to create estimated target variable from the unlabeled data set. We then use two robust models, namely, random forest and deep neural networks to fit a model based on the estimated labeled training set. Next, the incoming live data are fed to the mentioned trained models for predicting the target variable. Simulation results confirm that compared with existing related results the proposed approach has higher speed, and acceptable false alarm rate.

Nowadays everyone is using smart phone. Many applications are in smart phone. To download an application user visit App store such as Google play store, Apple play store etc, then he or she is able to see the different application lists. User has no awareness about the application. So user looks at the list and download the application from App Store based on the mobile app rank. App developers...
full textA Comparison of State-of-the-art Classification Techniques for Expert Automobile Insurance Claim Fraud Detection
Several state-of-the-art binary classification techniques are experimentally evaluated in the context of expert automobile insurance claim fraud detection. The predictive power of logistic regression, C4.5 decision tree, k-nearest neighbor, Bayesian learning multilayer perceptron neural network, least-squares support vector machine, naive Bayes, and tree-augmented naive Bayes classification is ...
full textThe Impact of Insurance Fraud Detection
The purpose of this paper is to characterize the impact of fraud detection systems on the auditing procedure and the equilibrium insurance contract, when a policyholder can report a loss that never occurred. Insurers can only detect fraudulent claims through a costly audit (costly state verification). With fraud detection system insurers can depend their audit on the signal of the system and au...
full textOutlier-based Health Insurance Fraud Detection for U.S. Medicaid Data
Fraud, waste, and abuse in the U.S. healthcare system are estimated at $700 billion annually. Predictive analytics offers government and private payers the opportunity to identify and prevent or recover such billings. This paper proposes a data-driven method for fraud detection based on comparative research, fraud cases, and literature review. Unsupervised data mining techniques such as outlier...
full textUnsupervised Fraud Detection in Time Series data
Fraud detection is of great importance to financial institutions. This paper is concerned with the problem of finding outliers in time series financial data using Peer Group Analysis (PGA), which is an unsupervised technique for fraud detection. The objective of PGA is to characterize the expected pattern of behavior around the target sequence in terms of the behavior of similar objects, and th...

Credit card fraud falls broadly into two categories: behavioural fraud and application fraud. Application fraud occurs when individuals obtain new credit cards from issuing companies using false personal information and then spend as much as possible in a short space of time. However, most credit card fraud is behavioural and occurs when details of legitimate cards have been obtained fraudulent...
