Factors Affecting Student's Scientific Information Retrieval based on Fuzzy Logic Method Compared to Traditional Method
Authors
Abstract:
Background and aim: The aim of this study was to identify the factors affecting on students' performance in information retrieval based on fuzzy logic method compared to traditional method. Materials and methods: This survey-descriptive study was performed using quantitative approach. The research population was 34 PhD students, and the researcher-made questionnaire was used. Data were analyzed using evaluation method based on fuzzy logic systems and MATLAB software. Multiple regressions were used to determine the effect of all variables affecting on scientific information retrieval. Findings: Personal and cognitive factors such as familiarity with specialized vocabulary, search term determination and evaluation ability and factors including relevance analysis, problem formulation and limiting the scope of the search had the greatest and the least impact on students' performance in scientific information retrieval, respectively. In relation to information system capabilities, the factor of search capabilities with an average of 3.05 had the most impact, and factors such as providing graphical facilities like graph and flowchart (displaying results in information system) had the least impact on information retrieval performance. Conclusion: Personal and cognitive factors of users have most impact on user’s performance during scientific information retrieval. Moreover, the user’s performance success is more in fuzzy method than traditional evaluation methods.

An Improved MPPT Method of Wind Turbine Based on HCS Method by Using Fuzzy Logic System
In this paper presents a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique based on the Hill Climbing Search (HCS) method and fuzzy logic system for Wind Turbines (WTs) including of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) as generator. In the conventional HCS method the step size is constant, therefor both steady-state response and dynamic response of method cannot provide at the same time an...

Web is a largest information repository containing web pages, continuously expanding with time thus effectively and efficiently searching relevant information on the web is being a challenge. In recent years large numbers of search engines have been introduced which are still dealing with few problems of indexing and retrieval of relevant information. Therefore it becomes essential to evaluate ...

Information retrieval on the internet is necessity of today’s quintessential technocrats. Enormous information is readily available on the internet. Information retrieval is the key application of internet, as it provides knowledge to the knowledge seekers. The volume of data on the internet is very large, and to fetch most appropriate and relevant information are the challenges in WBIR (Web Ba...
full textA New Method for Fuzzy Information Retrieval Based on Fuzzy-Number Similarity Measure
Fuzzy similarity measure is very useful in fuzzy information retrieval. This study presents a new method based on fuzzy-number similarity measure to deal with fuzzy information retrieval problems. The proposed method can obtain the suitable retrieval results for the user because it translate the degree of satisfaction F~ into a linguistic term, and user can easily determine whether the retrieve...
full textA New Information Fusion Method for Fuzzy Information Retrieval
In this paper, we present a new prioritization method for information fusion under fuzzy environment. We propose a new measure to measure the similarity between generalized trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. Based on the proposed similarity measure, we develop an utility function of generalized trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. With the utility function of generalized trapezoidal fuzzy numbers, we propose a n...
full textFuzzy multi-criteria decision making method based on fuzzy structured element with incomplete weight information
The fuzzy structured element (FSE) theory is a very useful toolfor dealing with fuzzy multi-criteria decision making (MCDM)problems by transforming the criterion value vectors of eachalternative into the corresponding criterion function vectors. Inthis paper, some concepts related to function vectors are firstdefined, such as the inner product of two function vectors, thecosine of the included ...
