Abstract:

Background and objectives: Burdock (Arcticum lappa L.) is a Eurasian species of plants in the sunflower family and has been used for hundreds of years by scientists and traditionally in North America, Europe, Asia and especially in China. It has also been used in gouts, hepatitis, blood pressure and other inflammatory disorders. There are several major compounds in different parts of this species and the main ingredients of the fruits, are arctiin and arctigenin. Methods: In this investigation, we obtained the dried seeds of burdock from Jahad Keshavazi Institute of medicinal plants, Karaj, Iran and ground the fruits and extracted them with ethanol 70% via maceration. Extracted material was filtered and analyzed by HPLC. Results: Quantification of Arctiin via HPLC analysis showed that it was 396.32 mg/g in the total extract. Conclusion: Depending on the measured arctiin, various oral capsule formulations were evaluated using the fruit extract and common fillers, such as Avistel 102, starch and lactose. The standardization of capsules was based on the presence of 396.32 mg/g of arctiin in each 250 mg capsule.

Formulation and Evaluation of Glimepiride Oral Capsules

Glimepiride (GMP) is poorly water soluble drug, so solubility is the main constraint for its oral bioavailability. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential of cubosomes as lipid nanocarrier to improve the solubility and sustained action of Glimepiride. Glimepiride is one of the third generation sulfonylureas used for treatment of type 2 diabetes. The rationale of this study was to...

Formulation Development of Oral Mucoadhesive Coated Terbutaline Sulphate Tablets Using Some Natural Materials Extracted from Edible Fruits Available in India

Mucoadhesive polymers that bind to the gastric mucin or epithelial cell surface are useful in drug delivery for the purpose of increasing the intimacy and duration of contact of drug with the absorbing membrane. Several synthetic polymers are in use for this purpose. Since the biodegradability of the synthetic polymers are questionable, in this investigation, an oral mucoadhesive controll...

Formulation and stability evaluation of extemporaneously prepared atenolol capsules from crushed atenolol tablets.

The purpose of this study was to formulate a 25-mg atenolol capsule starting from a commercial 100-mg atenolol tablet, given the fact that this strength is not available in Palestine and also because 50-mg atenolol tablets failed the splitting uniformity test of the European Pharmacopoeia, and to evaluate the chemical stability and dissolution behavior of the obtained capsules so as to ensure a...
