Abstract:

Experimental investigations has been done to find out the heat transfer characteristics and friction factor of water based Al2O3 nanofluids as a coolant in  brazed plate heat exchanger. Plate heat exchanger either use horizontally or vertically. The base plate of the plate heat exchanger was kept inclined at (0⁰, 30⁰ ,60⁰, 90⁰). The experimentation have been done on the two different concentration of the nanofluids (0.1 v/v% and 0.2 v/v%). It was observed that the heat trasnfer characterstics improves with increase in Reynolds number. It has been studied that nanofluids in a plate heat exchanger has  maximum of 34% heat transfer rate over the base fluid. It has been observed that from horizontal to vertical heat transfer rate decreases with increase in Reynolds number. Results shows that there is (10-15) % has been found out when the base plate of plate heat exchanger made inclined from horizontal to 30⁰ of inclination.

Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer of Nanofluids over a Flat Plate with Conjugate Heat Transfer

The falling and settling of solid particles in gases and liquids is a natural phenomenon happens in many industrial processes. This phenomenon has altered pure forced convection to a combination of heat conduction and heat convection in a flow over a plate. In this paper, the coupling of conduction (inside the plate) and forced convection of a non-homogeneous nanofluid flow (over a flat plate) ...

A numerical investigation of γ-Al2O3-water nanofluids heat transfer and pressure drop in a shell and tube heat exchanger

The effect of γ-Al2O3 nanoparticles on heat transfer rate, baffle spacing and pressure drop in the shell side of small shell and tube heat exchangers was investigated numerically under turbulent regime. γ-Al2O3-water nanofluids and pure water were used in the shell side and the tube side of heat exchangers, respectively. Since the properties of γ-Al2O3-water nanofluids were variable, they were ...

Heat Transfer Analysis of Nanofluid in a Sine Wave Plate Heat Exchanger

Heat transfer is one of the most critical processes in the industry, and by increasing the efficiency of the heat exchanger, energy consumption of systems will be reduced. Very tiny particles in nanoscale dimensions, when uniformly dispersed and stably suspended in the base fluid, efficiently improve the thermal properties of the base fluid. With the help of nanofluids, the heat transfer rate i...

Analysis of Heat Transfer Enhancement in Spiral Plate Heat Exchanger

In the present study, the heat transfer coefficients of benzene in a spiral plate heat exchanger are investigated. The test section consists of a Plate of width 0.3150 m, thickness 0.001 m and Mean hydraulic diameter of 0.01 m. The mass flow rate of water (Hot fluid) is varying from 0.5 kg sec to 0.8 kg sec and the mass flow rate of benzene (cold fluid) varies from 0.4 kg sec to 0.7 kg sec. Exp...

Heat transfer enhancement in a spiral plate heat exchanger model using continuous rods

This study presents an innovative and simple way to increase the rate of heat transfer in a spiral plate heat exchanger model. Several circular cross-section rods, as continuous vortex generators, have been inserted within the spiral plate heat exchanger in the cross-stream plane. The vortex generators are located at various azimuth angles of α=30◦, 60◦, 90◦, and 120◦ with non-dimensional diame...

Factor Effect Estimation in the Convective Heat Transfer Coefficient Enhancement of Al2O3/EG Nanofluid in a Double-pipe Heat Exchanger

The forced convective heat transfer (CHT) coefficient of a particular nanofluid, Al2O3 nanoparticles-ethylene glycol (EG) mixture, was investigated experimentally in a double-pipe heat exchanger. The nanofluid Nusselt number for different nanoparticles’ concentrations as well as various operating temperatures was measured to be increased up to 23.7% using 1.0% wt of nanoparticles. The significa...
