Evaluation of urban resilience in dealing with flood risk using SWMM and Hec-Ras models in Mashhad Ab-o-Bargh neighborhood
Authors
Abstract:
Aims & Background Assessing the vulnerability of urban areas to surface water in cities is of particular importance. Destruction of the watershed upstream of urban areas, including the destruction of vegetation and road construction, as well as the uncontrolled expansion of urban and industrial lands, reduces the infiltration and increases runoff and carries the risk of floods. This study aims to achieve urban resilience indicators against the occurrence of natural flood crisis and then to assess the situation of Mashhad Ab-o-Bargh neighborhood according to these indicators. Methodology The research method is descriptive-analytical and applied in terms of purpose. Data collection is collected through library studies, Internet searches, and databases. The data required for this research to perform the necessary analysis has been used from the SWMM model to simulate Runoff construction in the selected area. By combining the HEC-RAS hydraulic model in ARC-GIS software, through the HEC-geoRAS add-on, the hydraulic simulation of the water and electricity canal was performed. Findings The results show that low and short-time rainfall but with high instantaneous intensities produces a larger hydrograph. Conclusion If the depth of flow in the transmitter is transferred to the GIS system, using the interpolation on the surface of the digital elevation model, the boundary of the flood due to rising water can be determined. The location to determine the boundary of the floodplain is located on the left side of Laden Boulevard [between Laden 12 to the water and electricity canal], which even with normal rain, the rider to the edge of the asphalt is filled with water. The flood zoning map shows that the northern part of the neighborhood, especially the northeastern part, is more at risk of flooding.

The paper discusses how the well known USACE HEC models, RAS and HMS, are fully integrated within the decision support system of the Romagna River Basins in order to predict flood effects. The models are fully available from the web and cope with such a variety of problems as rainfall-runoff modeling, river and civil works hydraulics, and the mapping of hydraulic hazard. The paper illustrates t...

Flood zoning estimation and river management by using HEC-RAS and GIS model
Reliable estimates of river stream fl ow and fl ood zoning maps are needed for water resourcesmanagement such as fl ood mitigation, water supply, dam construction and irrigation. Flood zoning needsaccurate data and is one of the non-structural fl ood management methods. This paper describes theapplication of HEC-RAS and GIS model to determine fl oodplains maps for the part of Sardabrud Rivertha...
