Evaluation of prodynorphin gene polymorphisms and their association with heroin addiction in a sample of the southeast Iranian population
Authors
Abstract:
Genetic factors are supposed to account for about 30-50% of the predisposition to cocaine and heroin addiction. This study aims at investigating the effect of rs2281285, rs2235749, rs910080 and 68bp VNTR polymorphisms of prodynorphin (PDYN) gene on heroin dependence risk in a sample of the southeast Iranian population. This case-control study was done on 216 heroin dependence subjects and 219 healthy subjects. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood cells using salting out method. Genotyping of PDYN polymorphisms were performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or PCR-RFLP method. The findings showed that PDYN rs910080 T>C variant significantly increased the risk of heroin dependence (OR=7.91, 95%CI=3.36-18.61, P

It has been proposed that genetic factors account for 30%–50% of the risk for cocaine and heroin addiction. The present study was aimed to find out the impact of μ-opioid receptor gene (OPRM1) rs1799971 A > G and rs9479757 polymorphisms on heroin dependence in a sample of southeast Iranian population. This case-control study was done on 123 heroin addicts and 140 non-addicts Iranian male. Genom...
full textEvaluation of the Association of Htr2a Gene Rs6313 Polymorphism with Heroin Dependence in a Sample from Northwest Iran
Introduction: Heroin dependence is a chronic relapsing disorder caused by a combination of genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors. The genetic contribution in the vulnerability to heroin dependence is 40%-60%. Alterations in dopamine transport in the CNS are implicated in drug and alcohol dependence, and according to linkage studies, the HTR2A rs6313 single nucleotide polymorphism plays...
full textAssociation of Htra1 Gene Polymorphisms with the Risk of Developing AMD in Iranian Population
Background: Half of the cases of vision loss in people under 60 years of age have been attributed to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This is a multifactorial disease with late onset. It has been demonstrated that many different genetic loci are implicated in the risk of developing AMD in different populations. In the current study, we investigated the association of high-temperature &lr...

Association of Two Polymorphisms in H2B.W Gene with Azoospermia and Severe Oligozoospermia in An Iranian Population
Background During spermatogenesis, the H2B family, member W (H2B.W) gene, encodes a testis specific histone that is co-localized with telomeric sequences and has the potential role to mediate the sperm-specific chromatin remodeling. Previously H2B.W genetic variants were reported to be involved in susceptibility to spermatogenesis impairment. In the present study, two single nucleotide polymorp...
