Evaluation of HYDRUS2D for estimating maize evapotranspiration and virtual water content
author
Abstract:
Fresh water scarcity has become a global problem which needs a serious attempt to find proper solutions for decreasing the pressure on the limited water resources. The exact estimation of crop virtual water would help with choosing crops with high crop and water productivity which lead to both food and water security. Thus, in this research, maize virtual water was estimated using HYDRUS2D based on the soil water balance under field condition. Results demonstrated the high potential of HYDRUS2D for simulating maize evapotranspiration. Maize water consumption was 649 mm in 2010 and decreased to 572 mm in 2011 due to yearly variations of climate parameters. Less water consumption and high grain yield (6.6 Mg ha-1) in 2011 caused maize virtual water (0.87 M3 Kg-1) to be 6.45% less than ones in 2010 (0.93 M3 Kg-1). Assuming 20 Kg Year per capita consumption, Mazandaran Province would be a maize importer region which make it a water dependent region. However, importing maize from dry lands would increase the water sufficiency in the study area

full textsimulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
Evaluation of Virtual Water and Water Footprint of Crop Production (Case study: Qaleganj County)
To address the optimal use of available water resources, a revisit of water resource allocation and management is needed. Water use and water footprint of every product varies in different geographical areas due to various climate, agricultural operations and water efficiencies. Thus, more productive management schemes are to be developed. The goal of this study is to assess the virtual water a...
full textAssessing Experimental and Intelligent Models in Estimating Reference Evapotranspiration
Introduction: As the most important element in the hydrologic cycle which depends on climate variables such as near-ground wind speed, air temperature, solar radiation, and relative humidity, reference evapotranspiration (ET0) is normally computed through a variety of methods, each of which requires different and in some cases extensive data that are unavailable in many circumstances, especial...
full textA One-Layer Satellite Surface Energy Balance for Estimating Evapotranspiration Rates and Crop Water Stress Indexes
Daily evapotranspiration fluxes over the semi-arid Catania Plain area (Eastern Sicily, Italy) were evaluated using remotely sensed data from Landsat Thematic Mapper TM5 images. A one-source parameterization of the surface sensible heat flux exchange using satellite surface temperature has been used. The transfer of sensible and latent heat is described by aerodynamic resistance and surface resi...
