Evaluation of Canal Transportation and Centering Ability of Safesider and K-Flexofile: Using Cone-beam Computed Tomography

Authors

Abstract:

Abstract Background and aim: Maintaining the original geometry of canal is an important parameter in successful root canal treatment. The aim of this original study was evaluation of apical root canal transportation and centering ability of SafeSider and K-Flexofile using cone beam computed tomography. Materials and Methods: Mesiobuccal root canals of maxillary first molars, with 20-40° curvature, were selected and randomly divided into two groups (n=20). The first group was prepared with K-Flexofile with passive step-back technique and the second group was prepared with SafeSider system. Canal transportation and centering ability was measured using pre- and post-operative CBCT images of the apical 4 mm of the roots taken at 1 mm intervals. Repeated measure ANOVA and Independent T-test were performed to compare data. Results: The reciprocating SafeSider system transported root canals significantly more than K-Flexofile in the apical 2 mm level and mesiodistal direction (P = 0.006). Centering ability of K-Flexofile in the apical 1 mm level and buccolingual direction was significantly better than SafeSider system (P =0.003). Conclusion: Manual preparation with K-Flexofile was better capable of maintaining the original geometry of canal and showed better centering ability and less apical root canal transportation than SafeSider system.

Comparison of transportation and centering ability using RECIPROC and iRace: A cone-beam computed tomography study

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Root canal treatment, especially in curved and constricted root canals, can be very difficult and time consuming. Several investigations have compared the reciprocating and full sequence motions in terms of shaping ability. The purpose of the present study was to compare the root canal transportation and centering ability of RECIPROC and iRace using cone-beam computed tomogr...

Comparison of Canal Transportation and Centering Ability of Wave One and SafeSider in Curved Root Canals Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography

Background and Aim: Maintaining the original central canal path during cleaning and shaping of the root canal system plays an important role in the success of endodontic treatment. This study sought to compare canal transportation and centering ability of WaveOne and SafeSider rotary files using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: This in-vitro, experimental study was ...

Root Canal Transportation and Centering Ability of Nickel-Titanium Rotary Instruments in Mandibular Premolars Assessed Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography

INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to evaluate, using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), transportation and centralization of different nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments. METHODS One hundred and twenty eight mandibular premolars were selected and instrumented using the following brands of NiTi files: WaveOne, WaveOne Gold, Reciproc, ProTaper Next, ProTaper Gold, Mtwo, BioRaCe a...

Evaluation of Root Canal Transportation using Bio Race and K -Flexo file instruments: using cone-Bean Computed

Background & Aim: Deviation from the original shape of the canal leads to poor filling and lack of proper canal seal and consequently to the failure of root treatment The aim of this experimental study was to determine the extent of apical transportation after instrumentation with hand K-Flexofile and BioRace rotary instruments by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material and Methods: In t...
