Abstract:

‎In this paper‎, ‎we study spectral element approximation for a constrained‎ ‎optimal control problem in one dimension‎. ‎The equivalent a posteriori error estimators are derived for‎ ‎the control‎, ‎the state and the adjoint state approximation‎. ‎Such estimators can be used to‎ ‎construct adaptive spectral elements for the control problems.

Equivalent a Posteriori Error Estimates for a Constrained Optimal Control Problem Governed by Parabolic Equations

For the optimal control problems governed by linear elliptic or parabolic state equations, a priori error estimates of the finite element approximation were established long ago, see [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. In order to obtain a numerical solution of acceptable accuracy for the optimal control problem, the finite element meshes have to be refined according to a mesh refinement scheme. Adaptive finite e...

Reliable a posteriori error estimation for state-constrained optimal control

We derive a reliable a posteriori error estimator for a state-constrained elliptic optimal control problem taking into account both regularisation and discretisation. The estimator is applicable to finite element discretisations of the problem with both discretised and non-discretised control. The performance of our estimator is illustrated by several numerical examples for which we also introd...

Residual-based a posteriori error estimates for hp finite element solutions of semilinear Neumann boundary optimal control problems

In this paper, we investigate residual-based a posteriori error estimates for the hp finite element approximation of semilinear Neumann boundary elliptic optimal control problems. By using the hp finite element approximation for both the state and the co-state and the hp discontinuous Galerkin finite element approximation for the control, we derive a posteriori error bounds in L2-H1 norms for t...

A RESIDUAL–BASED POSTERIORI ERROR ESTIMATES FOR hp FINITE ELEMENT SOLUTIONS OF GENERAL BILINEAR OPTIMAL CONTROL PROBLEMS

In this paper, we investigate a residual-based posteriori error estimates for the hp finite element approximation of general optimal control problems governed by bilinear elliptic equations. By using the hp discontinuous Galerkin finite element approximation for the control and the hp finite element approximation for both the state and the co-state, we derive a posteriori upper error bounds for...

Optimal a Posteriori Error Estimates of the Local Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Convection- Diffusion Problems in One Space Dimension

In this paper, we derive optimal order a posteriori error estimates for the local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) method for linear convection-diffusion problems in one space dimension. One of the key ingredients in our analysis is the recent optimal superconvergence result in [Y. Yang and C.-W. Shu, J. Comp. Math., 33 (2015), pp. 323-340]. We first prove that the LDG solution and its spatial deri...
