Abstract:

Socially, the word"elite" is broadly used to refer to a superior group of peopleregarding skills or privileges and associates with other terms such aspolitical systems, "authorities", "minority favorite".Elites are cautious and opportunistic people. Focusing on concept of “elite” and “elitism”, theauthor in this paper, attempts to study Gaetano Mosca’s elite theory and ideasof other thinkers both advocating and opposing the idea. Exploring the impactof this theory on political science realm and comparing it to other theories inthe same area and fairly criticizing them, the author comes to the conclusionthat “elitism” generally believes every society and/or organization ends up inoligarchy. That is, a powerful elite minority will eventually take over andalso the emersion of a ruling class is an exclusive attribute of everypolitical organization and society.

Why Model Strokes ? Gaetano

In this issue of Stroke, Professor Laszlo Molnar and coworkers describe another experimental model of stroke. An apparently reversible form of embolic intravascular occlusion may now be added to previous tabulations of various methods and outcomes. Professor Molnar and coworkers have previously validated their model by light microscopic criteria to show morphologic resemblance to ischemic patho...

Elitism and egalitarianism

As a collective group, scientists would probably vote slightly left of the centre, be more liberal in their political and social views and would be genuinely concerned about inequalities in society. Nous appliq...

Elitism in agent-based evolutionary multiobjective optimization

This work introduces a new evolutionary approach to solving the problems of multiobjective optimization. Novelty of the proposed method consists in the application of an evolutionary multi-agent system equipped with the mechanism(s) of elitism, instead of its ’classical’ (non-elitist) version. In the paper the model of an elitist evolutionary multi-agent system is described together with its sa...
