Electrochemical Evaluation of PbO Nanoparticles as Anode for Lithium Ion Batteries (Technical Note)

author

Abstract:

PbO nanoparticles were synthesized using hydrothermal process. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used in order to investigate of PbO powders. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern confirmed β-PbO formation during this process. The crystallite size of the powders was calculated using Scherrer formula about 74.6 nm. Electrochemical evaluation of the PbO nanoparticles as anode for Li-ion batteries shows that two reactions were occurred during the first discharge. Some intermediates also were seen during Pb alloying with Li. The cyclic loading of the PbO nanoparticles show reversible capacity higher than 125 mAh g-1

Electrochemical properties of iron oxide nanoparticles as an anode for Li-ion batteries

The synthesis of iron oxide nano-particles by direct thermal decomposition was studied. Simultaneous thermal analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results confirmed the formation of iron-urea complex, and disclosed iron oxide formation mechanism. Calcination of the iron-urea complex at 200°C and 250°C for 2 hrs. resulted in the formation of maghemite along with hematite as a seco...

Initial Discharge Capacity of Manganese Cobaltite as Anode Material for Lithium Ion Batteries

Nanostructured manganese cobalt oxide spinel (MnCo2O4) are prepared by co-precipitation method and calcined at 650 and 750°C. Morphological studies show that by increasing the calcination temperature from 650 to 750°C, morphology of the particles changes from quasi-plate to polyhedral. The MnCo2O4 calcined at 650°C could deliver an initial discharge capacity of 1438 mAh g-1 under current densit...

Synthesis of Hard Carbon- Silicon Nanocomposite as Anode Active Material for Lithium-Ion Batteries

In this research, using phenolic resin as the precursor of carbon and various amounts of ethylene glycol as a pore former, porous samples of hard carbon were synthesized. Samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and N2 adsorption-desorption methods. Broad diffraction peaks represent the amorphous structure of samples. Moreover, the gas adsorption-desorption curves showed that the a...

Electrochemical Properties of Si-Ge Heterostructures as an Anode Material for Lithium Ion Batteries

Among them, Si is the most promising candidate due to its high theoretical specifi c capacity (4200 mAh g −1 ). [ 5 ] However, its practical use in commercial application is limited by both poor cycle retention, caused by high volume change during cycling, and poor rate capabilities, due to its inherent low electron conductivity and ion diffusivity. There are two general approaches to overcome ...

Facile synthesis and electrochemical performances of hollow graphene spheres as anode material for lithium-ion batteries

UNLABELLED The hollow graphene oxide spheres have been successfully fabricated from graphene oxide nanosheets utilizing a water-in-oil emulsion technique, which were prepared from natural flake graphite by oxidation and ultrasonic treatment. The hollow graphene oxide spheres were reduced to hollow graphene spheres at 500°C for 3 h under an atmosphere of Ar(95%)/H2(5%). The first reversible spec...

Monodispersed mesoporous Li4Ti5O12 submicrospheres as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries: morphology and electrochemical performances.

Although nanosizing Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) materials is an effective way to improve their rate performances, their low tap density and first cycle coulombic efficiency limit their practical applications. To tackle these problems while preserving the advanced rate performances, monodispersed mesoporous LTO submicrospheres are developed here. These submicrospheres are synthesized via a solvothermal meth...
