Effects of Karun 4 Dam Construction on Climatic Parameters Using Remote Sensing
Authors
Abstract:
In this study, using Modis images and wets pass model, the value of evapotranspiration for the northern Karun basin was estimated monthly from 2000 to 2014. The value of correlation coefficient for the obtained evaporations was R2 = 0.72. This model was calibrated and verified for different regions with different parameters. Data from 2000 to 2009 were used for calibration and data from 2010 to 2014 were used for validation of the model. The value calculated 0.54. In this study, with a review of climatic parameters of temperature, precipitation, evaporation during the period before the dam construction and after that, the effects on the microclimate of the area is investigated. Finally, to study the changes caused arising from the creation of a dam on the amount of evapotranspiration using the monthly images of Modis during the studied statistical period, the classification of images was done and the amount of changes were calculated. The results showed that the amount of evapotranspiration in the basin after the construction increased and its changes with distance from the dam in some months also has been increased.

Evaluation of Dust Effects on Spectral Behavior of Plants Using Remote Sensing Data
Introduction Dust is one of the important climatic phenomena that has occurred in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. In recent years, one of the most important environmental issues in the Middle East and Iran is the occurrence of dust phenomena that affects a variety of factors, including human health, plants and other living organisms, economic conditions, and etc. One of the effective ...
full textScattering Effects on Microwave Passive Remote Sensing of Cloud Parameters
As an important tool of atmospheric remote sensing, microwave radiometers are used for temperature profiling, and vapor and liquid column measurements (Hogg et al. 1983; Solheim et al.1998). Radiometer measurements are inexpensive compared to the cost of radar, and it can provide all-time observation in both cloudy and clear air situations. However, using radiometer measurements can be more dif...
full textAir temperature estimation based on environmental parameters using remote sensing data
This study is aimed at estimating monthly mean air temperature (Ta) using the MODIS Land Surface Temperature (LST), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), latitude, altitude, slope gradient and land use data during 2001-2015. The results showed that despite some spatial similarities between annual spatial patterns of Ta and LST, their variations are significantly different, so that the...
full textDETERMINATION OF SENSOR LOCATIONS FOR MONITORING OF ORCHARDS PARAMETERS USING REMOTE SENSING AND GIS
Optimal management of the farm and increasing production efficiency can be achieved by collecting accurate and appropriate information from the fields. The aim of this study is to determine the location of soil moisture sensors in pistachio orchards. For this purpose, initial information was obtained using satellite image processing. Then, using clustering method the information was clustered t...
full textEnvironmental impacts assessment of construction and utilization phases of tourism projects in Karun Dam IV, Iran
There is a strong mutuality between tourism and environment via the creation of feedback mechanisms, since tourism often places adverse effects upon the quality and quantity of natural and cultural resources of the destination, leading to its qualitative and quantitative degradation. Within theEnvironmental Impacts Assessment (EIA) studies, various methods have been proposed to assess and analy...
full textRemote Sensing of Photosynthetic Parameters
Remote sensing cannot measure photosynthesis directly. However, remote sensing can provide information about parameters directly or indirectly connected to the photosynthetic activity of a plant or a vegetation canopy. Since the launch of the first earth resource satellite in 1972 researchers focused on the relationship between vegetation and its radiometric response. Comparisons of ground meas...
