Effectiveness of Logotherapy on Fear of disease progression, Death Anxiety of cancer in Women with Breast Cancer

Abstract:

Introduction: To provide systematic and public palliative care in Iran, education this care for breast cancer patients can Fear of cancer recurrence and Death Anxiety  of these patients, So the present study was conducted to determine “Effectiveness of Logotherapy on Fear of disease progression, Death Anxiety of cancer in Women with Breast Cancer”. Method: This is a quasi- experimental study with pre-test and post-test design with control group. The statistical population included all patients with breast cancer who referred to Arad hospital of Tehran and had a medical record. In this study, 30 subjects have been selected by purposive sampling method and after matching, randomly were assigned to two experimental and control groups (15-15). The experimental groups consisted of ten 90-minute sessions with Logotherapy(Frankle, 1986), and a control group in the waiting list for training. Fear of cancer recurrence , Death Anxiety  were used for data collection. Data analysis was analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation and covariance. Results: : The findings showed that Logotherapy caused a significant difference in Fear of cancer recurrence(p=0.03), Death Anxiety(p=0.00) in patients with Breast Cancer after the intervention . Conclusion: Logotherapy reduced the fear of recurrence and death anxiety in women with breast cancer.It is suggested that, along with medical therapies, education for the Logotherapy should also be conducted to solve the problems of women with with Breast Cancer.
