Effect of turmeric on shrimp (Penaeus semisulcatus) shelf life extension in chilled storage conditions
Authors
Abstract:
The present investigation aimed to evaluate the effect of turmeric on shelf life extension of shrimp Penaeus semisulcatus under chilled storage conditions by sensory (organoleptic parameters), pH, proximate and bacterial analysis. The experimental setup was grouped into six, head on (group I), head on coated with turmeric (group II), headless (group III), headless coated with turmeric (group IV), peeled (group V) and peeled and coated with turmeric (group VI) groups. Peeled shrimps coated with turmeric group retained their quality and their shelf life was extended up to 8 days of storage in ice (1:1). Significant differences (p < /em>

Combined effect of antimicrobial coating and gamma irradiation on shelf life extension of pre-cooked shrimp (Penaeus spp.).
The present study was conducted to evaluate the combined effect of low-dose gamma irradiation and antimicrobial coating on the shelf life of pre-cooked shrimp (Penaeus spp.). Antimicrobial coatings were obtained by incorporating various concentrations of thyme oil and trans-cinnamaldehyde in coating formulations prepared from soy or whey protein isolates. Coated shrimps were stored at 4 +/- 1 d...
full textPreservative Effect of Chitosan Coating on Shelf Life and Sensory Properties of Chicken Fillets during Chilled Storage
Background: Chicken fillets contain essential amino acids besides many minerals and vitamins, which are necessary for maintaining life and promoting growth. Moreover, it is low in calories and cholesterol; therefore, it can be used for feeding infants, young children, and some patients. Methods: Chicken fillets were initially coated by dipping in different concentrations of chitosan (1.0%, 1.5...

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
Isolation and Characterization of Novel Microsatellite Loci in Green Tiger Shrimp (penaeus Semisulcatus)
The green tiger shrimp (Penaeus semisulcatus) is an economically important species among native Iranian Shrimps. Microsatellite loci were developed for population genetic assessment of this species in Iranian waters. A total of eight polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed and tested on 40 individuals. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 5 to 12 with average of 7.38 per locus. Th...
full textEffects of Procyanidin on Meat Quality and Shelf-Life for Preserving Pork Patties during Chilled Storage.
Grape seeds and pericarp are rich in procyanidins, a class of natural antioxidants and antimicrobials that can provide phytonutrients for healthy eating and extend food shelf life. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of procyanidins as preservatives in pork meat patties for 14 d. Pork patties were treated with 0, 0.1, or 0.3% procyanidin, and meat color, pH, volatile basic nitr...
