Abstract:

An eight week study was conducted to investigate the effect of inclusion of tomato waste meal in layer diets on laying performance, egg quality and lipid profile as a means to reduce feed cost and pollution. Four laying diets containing tomato waste meal (TWM) at four levels of 0, 3, 6 or 9% were assigned randomly to 4 groups of 40 birds divided among four replicates of 10 birds in each dietary treatment in a completely randomized experimental design. Collected on egg production, egg quality, yolk lipid profile and its carotenoid content which were analyzed byanalysis of variance using the general linear model procedure of SAS. Statistical results showed no differences in hen-day production at either 0, 3 or 6% inclusion level (68.30%, 67.80% and 68.10% respectively) but at the 9% (63.45% hen-day production) of inclusion level a significant (P

Nano-calcium carbonate: Effect on performance traits and egg quality in laying hens

A ten-week trial was carried out to determine the effect of different levels of nano-calcium carbonate (NCC) on egg production performance and egg quality. A completely randomized experiment was designed comprising 6 treatments, each with 4 replicates of 5 hens. Groups 1 and 2 were fed diets containing 8.06% and 6.045% calcium carbonate (CC) as positive and negative control respectively. Groups...

Interactive Influence of Formycine® Gold and Pigment on Egg Quality and Performance of Laying Hens

Sodium bentonite can bind to dietary pigment and decreases yolk color scale. Sodium bentonite is one of the main parts of Formycine® Gold, the effect of different levels of Formycine® Gold and dietary pigment on egg quality, egg yolk color and performance criteria of laying hens from 26 to 34 week of age were studied. One hundred ninety two Hy-Line hens were divided into 24 groups of 8 birds ea...

Effects of laying hens housing system on laying performance, egg quality characteristics, and egg microbial contamination

The objective of this study was to compare the performance, egg quality, and microbial contamination of egg shells from hens maintained in different housing systems, such as conventional and enriched cages, litter, and aviaries. The housing system significantly (P < 0.001) influenced the performance characteristics. The highest egg production, lowest daily feed consumption, and feed conversion ...
