Effect of different photoperiods on the growth and survival of juvenile of Indian major carp, Catla catla
Authors
Abstract:
The experiment was conducted to determine the effects of different photoperiods and darkness on the growth and survival of juvenile Catla catla in the laboratory for 90 days. Fishes were divided into four aquaria (10 fish per aquarium), and subjected to different photoperiod regimes of 8 hours light: 16 hours dark (8L:16D), 16 hours light: 8 hours dark (16L:8D), continuous light (24L:0D) and complete darkness (0L:24D). The maximum and minimum growth was observed in the group subjected to continuous photoperiod and complete darkness, respectively. The mean body weight of these groups was significantly different (p < /em>

full textFeeding metabolism in an Indian major carp (Catla catla Lin.) fed on different protein diets
Feeding metabolism in an Indian major carp, Catla catla fingerlings of 10.8+0.56g was investigated in a flow-through water recirculating system. The metabolic energy loss in resting metabolism and feeding metabolism were determined by the indirect method of oxygen consumption followed by multiplication by suitable oxycalorific coefficient. This was done in four metabolic chambers of a respirome...
full textIsolation, Purification and Characterization of Secondary Structure and Kinetic Study of Lipase from Indian Major Carp, Catla catla (Catla)
Lipases (E.C. 3.1.1.3) can be broadly defined as enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of ester bonds in substrates such as vitamin esters, phospholipids, triglycerides (TGs) and cholesteryl esters [1]. Interest in lipases has been increasing in the past few years because of the actual and potential uses of this enzyme in applications like hydrolysis of fats and oils, organic synthesis, modifica...
full textImpact of de-silting of pond on the growth and survival of catla (Catla catla) spawn.
Experiments were conducted in non-desilted and de-silted earthen nursery ponds for a period of fifteen days to evaluate the growth and survival of Catla spawn. The fry attained an average weight of 42.03 +/- 0.36 and 74.36 +/- 72 mg, with a survival rate of 23.44 +/- 0. 31 and 50.91 +/- 0.21% in non-desilted and de-silted ponds respectively Mentioned length data also indicate that growth and su...
full textToxicity of cadmium in haematological parameter to Indian major carp (Catla catla)
The aim of this study was to assess the effect of heavy metal agents on haematological parameter. The Indian major carp Catla catla was exposed to sub lethal concentration of cadmium for various exposure periods7, 14, 21, 28, day haematological parameter on RBC, WBC, and Hg, were measured both in control and experimental fish. During various exposure period’s day. The 7, 14, 21, 28 of RBC, WBC,...
