Abstract:

This experiment was conducted to study the effect of cocopeat: perlite medium with three ratios (v/v) (1:1, 3:1 and 1:3) on some vegetative, flowering and biochemical parameters of two gladiolus cultivars (Strong and White) under soilless conditions in 2016. Data indicated that most vegetative parameters expressed as plant height, leaf number and leaf area, flowering parameter such as spike emergence, spike diameter, spike length and number of florets per spike and biochemical parameters like chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, soluble sugars and macronutrient uptake N, P and K (%) in leaf were significantly affected in cultivars, media and their interaction. As the results showed, there was a significant interaction between cultivars and media in plant height and dry weight of florets where the higher plant was obtained in white cultivar and cocopeat: perlite with ratio 1:3, while higher dry weight of florets in strong cultivar and cocopeat: perlite with ratio 1:3. All of the parameters studied showed significant increase in the treatment containing coco peat: perlite with ratio 1:3 in both cultivars.

Evaluation Of Different Herbicides In Gladiolus (Gladiolus Grandiflorus L.)

An experiment was carried out at Regional Research Station, Wadura, SKUASTKashmir during 2012-2013 to evaluate different herbicides in gladiolus. The experiment consisted of eight different herbicides, cultural practices as weed control treatment and unweeded control and were replicated thrice in randomised block design. Among four herbicides i.e atrazine, metribuzin, butachlor and pendimethali...

Cultivar Effects on Growth, Yield and Cormel Production of Gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.)

Gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.), a popular bulbous cut flower, has high demand in both domestic (Pakistani) as well as international markets. Five potential, exotic cultivars of gladiolus, ‘Cantate’, ‘Corveira’, ‘Eminence’, ‘Essential’ and ‘Fado’ were evaluated to determine the cultivar effects on yield and quality, to compare their relative performance and recommend their suitability for...

Optimization of callus production and organogenesis of two commercial cultivars of Gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L. cv Amsterdam, Advance Red)

Gladiolus is cultivated as a high-value ornamental plant in the worldwide and it has the highest cultivation area and the highest level of underground organs imports in Iran. In this study, in order to investigate indirect regeneration of Amsterdam and Advance Red cultivars an experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with three replications. For callogenesis, bud sprout (apica...

Growth and Corm Production of Gladiolus grandiflorus L. ‘Essential’ Under Different NPK Regimes

Gladiolus is very popular and highly demanded cut flower worldwide however imbalance nutrition reduces its production, additionally irrational combination of nutrient further kindled the situation. The current study was conducted to ascertain the effects of different combinations of N, P and K on growth, floral development, and N, P and K uptake by gladiolus leaves. N, P and K was applied as; w...

Effect of Pulsing and Wet Cold Storage on the Quality and Vase Life of Cut Gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) ‘Fado’

Floriculture is among Kenya’s top foreign exchange earners. Gladiolus is one of the four famous cut flowers in the world whose popularity in Kenya is attributed to its heat tolerance, many spike forms and color combinations. However, the perishable nature of the flower renders it vulnerable to huge post-harvest losses. The study aimed to evaluate pulsing effect of cut Gladiolus</em...
