Effect of dietary betaine supplementation on growth indices, hematology and resistance of Schizothorax zarudnyi to salinity stress

Authors

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate of betaine effect on growth performance, hematology and resistance of Schizothorax zarudnyi to salinity stress. For this purpose, 120 fish (6.58±0.29 g) were fed with levels of 0 (control), 0.5% (treatment 1), 1% (treatment 2) and 2% (treatment 3) 2 times per day for 8 weeks. At the end of the period, the fish were biometric and exposed to 20 g. L-1 salinity stress for two hours. Results of this study showed, significant difference in growth parameters (Mean of final weight and length, SGR,CF and FCR) between fish fed betaine supplementation diets and control group (p<0.05). In addition, the results of  blood factors indicated that betaine had no effect on hematocrit, hemoglobin, red and white blood cells count and no significant difference was observed between treatments and control(p>0.05). Resistant to salinity stress in Schizothorax zarudnyi were fed to betaine, was more than the control group. Based on the results of this study, it seems that betaine supplementation diets can increase the growth and resistance of Schizothorax zarudnyi.

Improvement of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) fingerlings resistance to salinity stress with dietary safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L) extract supplementation

In this study, the effect of dietary safflower extract supplementation was investigated on common carp survival and physiological response to salinity stress. To this, the fingerling fish with average weight of 9.51 ± 0/13 g were fed with diets containing 0, 0.5, 1.5 and 3 % safflower extract for 70 days. After this period, some fish were randomly exposed to water salinity of 20 g/l and their m...

Effects of dietary betaine supplementation subjected to heat stress on milk performances and physiology indices in dairy cow.

This study aimed to determine whether feeding betaine to cows elevates their production performance during summer heat stress. Thirty-two lactating Holstein cows were randomly divided into 4 groups: the control group, which received a total mixed ration (TMR), and 3 experimental groups that received TMR blended with 10 g/day (group I), 15 g/day (group II), and 20 g/day (group III) betaine for 8...

The effect of dietary supplementation of L-carnitine on growth indices and survival rate in Sobaity seabream Sparidentex hasta

One of the major issues in aquaculture is to keep balance between growth rate of fish and optimal use of consumed food. L-carnitine is considered an effective food supplement for fish growth. Sobaity seabream is one of the commercially important species in the Persian Gulf that is highly considered in aquaculture too. Growth indices and survival rate of 240 Sobaity fingerlings with mean weight ...
