Eco-Friendly Hybrid Concrete using Pozzolanic Binder and Glass Fibers

Authors: not saved
Abstract:

Hybrid Concrete focused on the development of buildings, highways, and other structures of civil engineering. In the current study, various mix combinations have been prepared and tested with different percentages of super-plasticizer at different levels of water reduction for obtaining the optimum mix. Further, study on different properties of hybrid concrete and replacement of ordinary portland cement (OPC) with ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), silica fume (SF) and glass fibers (GF) for obtaining highly cement replaced concrete (HCRC) and glass fiber concrete (GFC). The concrete performance was evaluated based on slump cone test, compressive strength test, split tensile strength test, flexural strength test, water absorption test and ultrasonic pulse velocity test. It was observed from the results that, the best performance of HCRC achieved at 50% GGBFS and 3% silica fume replacement. Further, in the case of GFC, 0.2% of glass fibers showed better performance in terms of split tensile and flexural strength at all ages. The optimized concrete mixtures like HCRC and GFC performed better than the control concrete (CC).

Green Concrete: An Efficient and Eco-Friendly Sustainable Building Material

Green concrete is a concept of thinking environment into concrete considering every aspect from raw materials manufacture over mixture design to structural design, construction and service life. Green concrete is a type of concrete which resembles the conventional concrete but the production or usage of such concrete requires minimum amount of energy and causes least harm to the environment. Si...

Performance of Pozzolanic Concrete Using Different Mineral Admixtures

Concrete is probably the most extensively used construction material in the world. However, environmental concerns regarding rapid consumption of natural resources and CO2 emission during cement manufacturing process have brought pressure to reduce cement consumption by the use of cement replacement materials (CRMs). The utilization of calcined clay (metakaolin) and silica fume in concrete has ...

Eco-Friendly Electricity Generator Using Scintillating Piezo

The concept is to capture the normally lost energy surrounding a system and converting it into electrical energy that can be used to extend the lifetime of that system’s power supply or possibly provide an endless supply of energy to an electronic device which has led to power harvesting. One of the most interesting methods of obtaining the energy surrounding a system is to use piezoelectric ma...

Investigating the Properties of Asphalt Concrete Containing Glass Fibers and Nanoclay

The performance of asphaltic pavements during their service life is highly dependent on the mechanical properties of the asphaltic layers. Therefore, in order to extend their service life, scientists and engineers are constantly trying to improve the mechanical properties of the asphaltic mixtures. One common method of improving the performance of asphaltic mixtures is using different types of ...

Lignin as a Binder Material for Eco-Friendly Li-Ion Batteries

The industrial lignin used here is a byproduct from Kraft pulp mills, extracted from black liquor. Since lignin is inexpensive, abundant and renewable, its utilization has attracted more and more attention. In this work, lignin was used for the first time as binder material for LiFePO₄ positive and graphite negative electrodes in Li-ion batteries. A procedure for pretreatment of lignin, where l...
