Abstract:

Introduction: The safety of CNG stations is important because of their location in urban areas, as well as to prevent accidents and to protect the safety of personnel, property, and environment. An event occurrence analysis with probability updating is the key to dynamic safety analysis. Methods and materials: In this study, the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) technique was used to determine the hazards of the study unit, the method of analyzing. After determining the hazards with high risk, the Bayesian fault tree analysis (BFTA) method was used to determine the effective causes of events occurrence and the type of possible relationships among them. Results: First, the phase of hazards identification, 16 Hazardous equipment were identified. Then the Risk Priority Number for the identified equipment was calculated. The results showed that the dispenser system had the highest risk priority number and was identified as the most critical equipment. According to this, the dispenser gas leakage (as the top event) was selected in this study. Then, the analysis of the dispenser gas leakage, using BFTA method identified 56 main causes, including 17 intermediate events and 39 basic events. Finally, cracking and corrosion of the dispenser hose were determined the most effective factor in the occurrence of the top event. The probability of occurrence of the top event based on FTA and BFTA analysis was calculated 9.67×10-2 and 9.11 × 10-2, respectively. Conclusion: The result of the study that by employing the Bayesian Network, can create a useful guideline to determine the relationship between the occurrence causes of the top event. This provides an assessment of the effectiveness of preventive measures before using them.

Research on Safety Risk of Dangerous Chemicals Road Transportation Based on Dynamic Fault Tree and Bayesian Network Hybrid Method (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Safety risk study on road transportation of hazardous chemicals is a reliable basis for the government to formulate transportation planning and preparing emergent schemes, but also is an important reference for safety risk managers to carry out dangerous chemicals safety risk managers. Based on the analysis of the transport safety risk of dangerous chemicals at home and abroad, this paper studi...

Safety analysis in process facilities: Comparison of fault tree and Bayesian network approaches

Safety analysis in gas process facilities is necessary to prevent unwanted events that may cause catastrophic accidents. Accident scenario analysis with probability updating is the key to dynamic safety analysis. Although conventional failure assessment techniques such as fault tree (FT) have been used effectively for this purpose, they suffer severe limitations of static structure and uncertai...

Improved Dynamic Fault Tree modelling using Bayesian Networks

1. Background In modelling fault-tolerant systems , space state based approaches such as dynamic fault trees (DFTs) [4], have been shown to increase the power of traditional combinatorial models, like static fault trees (FTs) [9]. However, in practice, these approaches have severe limitations when dealing with the increasing complexity of component dependencies and failure behaviours of today’s...

Advancing Dynamic Fault Tree Analysis

This paper presents a new state space generation approach for dynamic fault trees (DFTs) together with a technique to synthesise failures rates in DFTs. Our state space generation technique aggressively exploits the DFT structure — detecting symmetries, spurious non-determinism, and don’t cares. Benchmarks show a gain of more than two orders of magnitude in terms of state space generation and a...

Using Fault Tree Analysis to Focus Mine Safety Research

Fault tree analysis is a systematic safety analysis tool that proceeds deductively from the occurrence of an undesired event (accident) to the identification of the root causes of that event. One recurring mine safety problem—a dozer falling into a void over a drawpoint on a coal surge pile—was analyzed using available, inexpensive fault tree programs on a personal computer. The analysis identi...

Dynamic fault tree analysis using Monte Carlo simulation in probabilistic safety assessment

Traditional fault tree (FT) analysis is widely used for reliability and safety assessment of complex and critical engineering systems. The behavior of components of complex systems and their interactions such as sequenceand functional-dependent failures, spares and dynamic redundancy management, and priority of failure events cannot be adequately captured by traditional FTs. Dynamic fault tree ...
