Dynamic Changes of Main Rumen Microflora and Ruminal Fermentation in Sheep Supplemented with Molasses-Urea
Authors
Abstract:
The digestion and utilization of roughage by sheep depends on rumen digestion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microbe quantity and fermentative efficiency of rumen supplement with molasses-urea. This experiment was conducted in 2014, eight sheep were selected and divided into two groups (a control group and a treatment group), and only the treatment group animals were supplied with molasses-urea for ad libitum consumption. Rumen fluid was collected every 2 h and rumen fermentation parameters were measured. The populations of majority bacteria were investigated by real-time PCR. The results showed that the populations of majority bacteria increased in the rumens of treatment group animals (P

Effects of Rice Straw Supplemented with Urea and Molasses on Intermediary Metabolism of Plasma Glucose and Leucine in Sheep.
An isotope dilution method using [U-(13)C]glucose and [1-(13)C]leucine (Leu) was conducted to evaluate the effects of rice straw supplemented with urea and molasses (RSUM-diet) on plasma glucose and Leu turnover rates in sheep. Nitrogen (N) balance, rumen fermentation characteristics and blood metabolite concentrations were also determined. Four sheep were fed either mixed hay (MH-diet), or a R...
full textEffects of tallow and urea on in vitro rumen fermentation and nutrient digestion in sheep.
An in vitro study was conducted using a 4 • 2 • 2 factorial design with RAC (readily available carbohydrate) levels of 30, 40, 50 and 60%, tallow levels of 0 and 3%, and urea levels of 0 and 2%. Acetic and propionic acid production and ammonia disappearance increased as the level of RAC increased from 30 to 50%. Tallow reduced acetic acid production and increased the amount of propionic acid pr...
full textFermentation of methanol in the sheep rumen.
Sheep fed a hay-concentrate diet were adapted to pectin administration and ruminal infusion of methanol. Both treatments resulted in a strong increase in the rate of methanogenesis from methanol. Quantitative data show that methanol was exclusively converted into methane. Treatments did not influence ruminal volatile fatty acid percentages.
full textImprovement of Nutritive Value and In vitro Ruminal Fermentation of Leucaena Silage by Molasses and Urea Supplementation
Leucaena silage was supplemented with different levels of molasses and urea to study its nutritive value and in vitro rumen fermentation efficiency. The ensiling study was randomly assigned according to a 3×3 factorial arrangement in which the first factor was molasses (M) supplement at 0%, 1%, and 2% of crop dry matter (DM) and the second was urea (U) supplement as 0%, 0.5%, and 1% of the crop...
full textEffect of Aflatoxin B1 on In Vitro Digestibility and Ruminal Fermentation of Sheep Diet
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different levels of aflatoxin on the gas production, in vitro fermentation parameters, dry matter and organic matter digestibility of sheep's diet. This experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replicate per treatment. The treatments included 1.diet without aflatoxin and methanol (control), 2.c...
