Abstract:

Four West African Dwarf (WAD) grower bucks averaging 6 kg in weight and aged between 5-6 months of age were used in a digestive trial to determine the intake and digestibility of raw or processed pigeon pea seed meal based diets. The diets designated RPBD, SPBD, TPBD and BPBD were formulated from cassava peel, palm kernel cake, brewers dry grain, bone meal and common salt to contain 15% of raw, boiled, soaked or toasted pigeon pea seed meal, respectively. The diets were allotted to the 4 animals in a 4×4 latin square design. Results showed that feed and dry matter intake (DMI) (g/d) were influenced (P

Nutrient Intake and Digestibility by West African Dwarf (WAD) Sheep Fed Graded Levels of Pigeon Pea Seed Meal

A study was carried out to evaluate nutrient intake and digestibility by West African Dwarf (WAD) sheep fed graded levels of dietary pigeon pea seed meal (PSM). Four diets designated A, B, C and D were formulated to contain 0, 10, 20, and 30% levels of PSM, respectively. Four WAD rams aged between 15 and 17 months and weighing between 16 and 19 kg were used to conduct digestibility study in a 4...

Nitrogen Metabolism, Digestibility and Blood Profile of West African Dwarf Goats Fed Dietary Levels of Cajanus cajan as Supplement to Cassava Peels

The effect of inclusion level on nutrient intake, digestibility, nitrogen metabolism and haematological parameters of West African Dwarf (WAD) goat fed Cajanus cajan as supplement to cassava peels was investigated in a completely randomized design experiment using twenty-four WAD goats with average initial weight of 10.75±0.85kg (March-September, 2016). There were four treatments as: A...

Chromium Toxicity on Seed Germination, Root Elongation and Coleoptile Growth of Pigeon Pea (cajanus Cajan)

A lab experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of chromium (Cr) on seed germination, root elongation and coleoptile growth in pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan). The seed of the pigeon pea was treated with five concentrations of Cr (0, 20, 40, 80 and 100 ppm). The results indicated that the per cent germination of test crop was decreased after application of 20 ppm Cr concentration. The effect o...

Dry Matter Intake, Milk Yield and Milk Fatty Acid Composition of Dairy Cows Fed Raw or Microwave Irradiated Safflower Seed as a Substitution to Cottonseed

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of using raw or microwave irradiated safflower seed on dry matter intake, milk production and composition, milk fatty acid profile, blood parameters, and nutrient apparent digestibility in early lactation cows. Nine multiparous Holstein cows at early lactation were randomly assigned to one of three treatments based on 3 × 3 balanced latin ...
