Designing a Fractional Order PID Controller for a Two-Area Micro-Grid under Uncertainty of Parameters

Authors

Abstract:

Increasing the number of microgrids has raised the complexity and nonlinearity of the power system and conventional controllers do not present acceptable efficiency in a wide range of operation points. In this study, a fractional order proportional–integral–derivative controller optimized with hybrid grey wolf-pattern search algorithm is used to control the frequency of each area of the microgrid and to control the power between the connected areas; such that the uncertainty of microgrid parameters is taken into account. The proposed controller is placed in the secondary loop of each microgrid. Suitable and robust operation against the uncertainty of microgrid parameters in simulators is demonstrated. The proposed controller iscompared with both a fractional order controller optimized with grey wolf algorithm and a PID controller, and suitable operation of the proposed controller, in terms of settling time reduction, and overshoot and undershoot reduction, is proven compared with other controllers

Fractional Order PID Controller for Diabetes Patients

This paper proposes an optimized control policy over type one diabetes. Type one diabetes is taken into consideration as a nonlinear model (Augmented Minimal Model), which is implemented in MATLAB-SIMULINK. This Model is developed in consideration of the patient's conditions. There are some uncertainties in the regarded model due to factors such as blood glucose concentration, daily meals or su...

Decentralized Fractional Order PID Controller for AGC in a Multi Area Deregulated power system

This paper presents the application of Fractional Order PID controller as a supplementary controller to improve the dynamics of LFC in multi area deregulated power system. FOPID is a PID controller whose derivative and integral orders are of fractional rather than integer. The extension of derivative and integration order from integer to fractional order provides more flexibility in design of t...

SCA based Fractional-order PID Controller Considering Delayed EV Aggregators

The EVs battery has the ability to enhance the balance between the load demand and power generation units. The EV aggregators to manage the random behaviour of EV owners and increasing EVs participation in the ancillary services market are employed. The presence of aggregators could lead to time-varying delay in load frequency control (LFC) schemes. The effects of these delays must be considere...

Fractional order robust adaptive intelligent controller design for fractional-order chaotic systems with unknown input delay, uncertainty and external disturbances

In this paper, a fractional-order robust adaptive intelligent controller (FRAIC) is designed for a class of chaotic fractional order systems with uncertainty, external disturbances and unknown time-varying input time delay. The time delay is considered both constant and time varying. Due to changes in the equilibrium point, adaptive control is used to update the system's momentary information a...

Adaptive Particle Swarm Algorithm for Parameters Tuning of Fractional Order PID Controller

In order to optimize the parameters of fractional order PID controller of complex system, an adaptive particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is proposed to realize the parameters adjustment. In this algorithm, the tuning particle population is divided into three subgroups firstly, and through introducing the swarm-aggregation degree factor and the evolution speed factor of particle, dynamical...
