Design and Psychometric Properties of the Clinical Nurses Time Management Competency Questionnaire

Abstract:

Background & Aim: In the era of nursing system time constraints, it seems necessary to evaluate time management competency of clinical nurses. Time management has sociocultural nature. Existing time management tools have not paid enough attention to social features of time management. The purpose of this study was to design a tool for assessing the social component of time management competency in clinical nurses' population Method: This research was carried out with a sequential exploratory approach. First, with the qualitative approach, using the grounded theory method, the concept of social components of time management competency of clinical nurses was explained. Based on quotations, the items of the initial tool were generated and then with the quantitative and qualitative face and content validity and construct validity assessed, and eventually, internal consistency and stability were performed to verify the reliability of the tool. Findings: From the first 41 items, 36 items after calculating the impact score of items with values higher than 1.5, the content validity ratio higher than 0.53, content validity index higher than 0.79, and item analysis entered into the exploratory factor analysis. 29 items were grouped into 6 factors. The internal consistency of the tool was equal to 0.858 by calculating Cronbach's alpha and the stability of the tool was calculated 0.906 by intra-class correlation coefficients. The tool was able to predict 46.714 of total time management competency changes. Conclusion: The present tool can be considered by nursing managers and researchers to evaluate the clinical nurses time management competency
