My first suture.
council of India defines internship as “a phase of training wherein a graduate is expected to conduct actual practice of medical and health care and acquire skills under supervision so that he/she may become capable of functioning independently” (1). It is meant to serve as a bridge between the theoretical learning of a medical student and the practical skills of a trained physician. It is also...
full textIntroduction of a New Suture Method in Repair of Peripheral Nerves Injured with a Sharp Mechanism
Background: The standard method for repair of an injured peripheal nerve is epineural repair with separate sutures. Herein we describe a method in which the nerve is sutured with continous sutures. In fact this method has not been utilized for nerve repair previously and our purpose was to compare it to the standard method. If it proved to be successful it would replace the standard method in...
full textBiomechanical Study of Two Peripheral Suture Methods on Repaired Tendons
Flexor digitorum tendon injuries are challenging conditions to manage to ensure optimal patient outcomes. While several surgical approaches with high success rates have been developed, there remains no gold standard for suture technique for the repair of flexor tendon injuries. In this study, we compared two distinct peripheral suture methods on the strength of repaired tendons. Pig flexor digi...
full textPolyglycolic acid suture in peripheral nerve II: sutured sciatic nerve.
This experiment investigates the holding property of polyglycolic acid suture in repair of divided dog sciatic nerves and the influence of absorption of this synthetic material on regeneration. The conclusion is that PGA maintains its tensile strength sufficently long to allow both physical union and good regeneration of the divided nerve. The suture absorption does not influence regeneration.
full textPolyglycolic acid suture in peripheral nerve: an electron microscopic study.
The aim of this experiment was to investigate the reaction of peripheral nerve tissue to a synthetic absorbable suture material. Polyglycolic acid suture material was investigated by means of electron photomicrographs. It was concluded that placement of polyglycolic acid into the peculiar environment of endoneurial tissues results in minimal scarring and in minimal disturbance of the surroundin...
full textDeep Infections After Syndesmotic Fixation With a Suture Button Device.
Suture button devices such as the TightRope (Arthrex, Naples, Florida) have been increasingly used for syndesmotic fixation of ankle fractures. Despite proposed advantages, prior studies have shown equivalent outcomes, with a theoretical decreased need for removal of hardware. Complications of suture button fixation of syndesmotic instability may be underreported and include lateral suture knot...
