Abstract:

Interests in increasing the trains’ speed of travel, generated higher degrees of wariness about the possible sever accidents. Since, the passenger wagon car body needs to be a safe compartment for its occupants therefore; great attention should be paid on its design.  In this study, a passenger car body that is originally made in Eastern Germany and its chassis are modeled to simulate the crash analysis according to EN 15227 standard. The results are then used in order to optimize the wagon chassis design. This investigation is performed in two steps. In the first step, which consists of simulation of the original wagon model, it is found that due to the lack of efficiency in crash force absorbent, some modifications in the design are needed. In the second step, the original chassis is modified and by implementing honeycomb cores as energy absorbing devices, higher energy absorption is achieved. Furthermore, impact stresses in mid-section of the chassis considerably decreased. The proposed energy absorbing device can be implemented in the front end of the chassis to provide a crashworthy structure. The results show that by modifying the under-frame the amount of energy absorption is increased by 46%, and also, the amount of maximum stress in the center of the under-frame isreduced by 66%

Evaluation of Passenger Rail Vehicle Crashworthiness

In recent years there has been an increased effort to investigate and improve the crashworthiness of passenger rail vehicles in the United States. The structural crashworthiness requirements for new rail vehicles are changing to include specifications for crash energy management and crush zones rather than primarily specifications of vehicle and component strengths. In addition, the structural ...

Crashworthiness Analysis of Electric Vehicle With Energy-Absorbing Battery Modules

As a clean energy technology, the development of electric vehicles (EVs) is challenged by lightweight design, battery safety, and range. In this study, our simulations indicate that using a flexible structure of battery module has the potential to overcome the limitations in battery-powered EVs, contributing to a new design. Specifically, we focus on optimizing the structure of vehicle battery ...

a contrastive analysis of concord and head parameter in english and azerbaijani

Computation of Slip analysis to detect adhesion for protection of rail vehicle and derailment

Adhesion level for the proper running of rail wheelset on track has remained a significant problem for researchers in detecting slippage to avoid accidents. In this paper, the slippage of rail wheels has been observed applying forward and lateral motions to slip velocity and torsion motion. The longitudinal and lateral forces behavior is watched with respect to traction force to note correlatio...
