Abstract:

Zn-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanoparticles with carbonate as the charge balancing anion in the interlayer space were synthesized using co-precipitation method. Then, the carbonate base Zn-Al LDH nanoparticles were doped with phosphate ion via anion-exchange reaction to synthesize Zn-Al-[PO43-]-[CO32-]. The structure and composition were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and thermal gravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) was employed to measure the phosphate release ability of Zn-Al-[PO43-]-[CO32-] in the 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. Results showed that zinc cation can release along with phosphate anion during ion exchange process. Then, the corrosion inhibition of phosphate anion and zinc cation on mild steel specimens was assessed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization. Field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was used to study the surface morphology of the mild steel specimens after exposure to the test solutions. The results indicated the significant impact of zinc and phosphorus concentration in test solution on the corrosion inhibition properties. Prog. Pamoate intercalated Zn-Al layered double hydroxide for the formation of layered organic-inorganic intercalate

A layered organic-inorganic intercalate was prepared by the self-assembly technique using pamoate (PA) as an organic guest in the Zn-Al layered double hydroxide inorganic host (ZAPAN). Various concentrations of PA, ranging from 0.01 to 0.04 M, were used to prepare the intercalated compound with a constant 4:1 ratio of Zn:Al in the mother liquor. The concentration of PA of 0.02 M at pH 7 was fou...

Antimycobacterial, antimicrobial, and biocompatibility properties of para-aminosalicylic acid with zinc layered hydroxide and Zn/Al layered double hydroxide nanocomposites

The treatment of tuberculosis by chemotherapy is complicated due to multiple drug prescriptions, long treatment duration, and adverse side effects. We report here for the first time an in vitro therapeutic effect of nanocomposites based on para-aminosalicylic acid with zinc layered hydroxide (PAS-ZLH) and zinc-aluminum layered double hydroxides (PAS-Zn/Al LDH), against mycobacteria, Gram-positi...

Intercalation of acrylate anions into the galleries of Zn–Al layered double hydroxide

Acrylate and methacrylate anions containing double bond and carboxylic groups, were intercalated in the interlayer region of a layered double hydroxide of formula: [Zn0.66Al0.34(OH)2](NO3)0.34 0.62H2O. The intercalation compounds obtained have been characterized for their chemical composition and with different instrumental techniques (X-ray powder diffraction, thermal analysis, FT-IR absorptio...

Removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid by calcined Zn-Al-Zr layered double hydroxide.

The adsorption equilibrium, kinetics, and thermodynamics of removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxy-acetic acid (2,4-D) from aqueous solutions by a calcined Zn-Al layered double hydroxide incorporated with Zr(4+) were studied with respect to time, temperature, pH, and initial 2,4-D concentration. Zr(4+) incorporation into the LDH was used to enhance 2,4-D uptake by creating higher positive charges and s...

Comparative study of Mg/Al- and Zn/Al-layered double hydroxide-perindopril erbumine nanocomposites for inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme

The intercalation of a drug active, perindopril, into Mg/Al-layered double hydroxide for the formation of a new nanocomposite, PMAE, was accomplished using a simple ion exchange technique. A relatively high loading percentage of perindopril of about 36.5% (w/w) indicates that intercalation of the active took place in the Mg/Al inorganic interlayer. Intercalation was further supported by Fourier...

Synthesis ratios of Mg-Al and Zn-Al layered double hydroxides efficiency and selectivity in nitrate removal from solution

Four diverse chlorides layered double hydroxides with diverse ratios, i.e. Mg-Al (3:1), Mg-Al (4:1), Zn-Al (4:1), and Zn-Al (3:1) LDHs, were prepared to evaluate their efficiency and selectivity towards nitrate removal from aquatic solutions. A batch experiment was done at the initial nitrate concentration of 5-1000 mg/L, pH 5 to 12, and contact time of 5-180 min. Isotherms of nitrate adsorptio...
