Correlation of Copper and Zinc in Spontaneous Abortions

Authors

Abstract:

Objective Trace metals are required in minute amounts for normal human growth and physiological function of the body and might play a vital role in the pregnancy and outcome. The study was conducted to assess the role of trace metals zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) among women with history of spontaneous abortion (SAb Cases) with respect to women without such history (Controls). MaterialsAndMethods A total of 277 subjects were enrolled from the Obstetrics and Gynecology department, Civil hospital, Ahmedabad, India. Personal demographic information, medical history, reproductive history especially details of number of SAb, duration of last SAb, number of children etc. were recorded on predesigned and pretested proforma. Serum Zn and Cu levels were measured by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. Results The data indicated that the serum level of Cu (p

Balanced Chromosomal Translocations of Parents in Relation to Spontaneous Abortions

The most significant complication of pregnancy is recurrent miscarriage. Numerous factors have been described as associations with recurrent wastage such as: uterine abnormalities, immunological factors, endocrinologic imbalance and chromosomal defects. Cytogenetic evaluation of couples with recurrent pregnancy losses is performed on the basis of G-banding technique only after other possible et...

Balanced Chromosomal Rearrangement in Recurrent Spontaneous Abortions: A Case Report

One of the major causes of spontaneous abortion before the fourth month of pregnancy is chromosomal abnormalities. We report an unusual case of a familial balanced chromosomal translocation in a consanguineous couple who experienced 4 spontaneous abortions. Chromosomal studies were performed on the basis of G-banding technique at high resolution and revealed 46, XX, t (16 6) (p12 q26) and 46, X...

Heterochromatic polymorphism in spontaneous abortions.

Since the advent of C-banding as a routine diagnostic procedure, the significance of heterochromatic polymorphism has been questioned. Some workers have considered variations in heterochromatin in chromosomes 1 and 9 to be associated with fetal wastage, recurrent abortions, and abnormal phenotypes. Over a 15-month period, this laboratory made a study of the diagnostic significance of heterochro...

Endometrial Ossification Following Repeated Spontaneous Abortions

Endometrial calcification along with ossification is an uncommon clinical entity. Most of the cases are asymptomatic or present with secondary infertility. Endometrial ossification associated with repeated abortions has been reported very infrequently. Here we report a case of endometrial calcification with ossification  due to retained fetal bony tissue in a 38 year old symptomatic female havi...

The Liver X Receptor in Correlation with Other Nuclear Receptors in Spontaneous and Recurrent Abortions

The liver X receptors (LXRs) have been shown to be crucially involved in maternal-fetal cholesterol transport and placentation. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression pattern and frequency of LXR under normal physiological circumstances and in spontaneous abortion and/or recurrent miscarriage. A total of 29 (12 physiologic pregnancies/10 spontaneous abortions/7 recurrent miscar...

Chromosomal Analysis of Couples with Repeated Spontaneous Abortions in Northeastern Iran

Background Cytogenetic study of reproductive wastage is an important aspect in determining the genetic background of early embryogenesis. Approximately 15 to 20% of all pregnancies in humans are terminated as recurrent spontaneous abortions (RSAs). The aim of this study was to detect chromosome abnormalities in couples with RSAs and to compare our results with those reported previously. Materia...
