Abstract:
73/ Spring summer 2010, Vol.4, No. 1 Medical Laboratory Journal Correlation between Nitric oxide (NO) & Asymmetric dimethylargininie (ADMA) Hemoglobin Concentration in sickle cell patients Abstract Background and objectives: The importance of Nitric oxide (NO) and Asymmetric dimethylargininie (ADMA) in pathophysiology of Sickle cell disease (SCD) is being increasingly clarified. Since very few of the studies have been conducted in the word and no study has been carried out in Iran, especially in Khuzestan province where is the main center of Sickle Cell disorder (SCD) in Iran, We decided to conduct the present study. Material and Methods: EDTA anticoagulated plasma samples were obtained from 35 healthy controls (Hb AA), 35 heterozygous (HB AS) and 35 homozygous (HB SS) sickle cell anemia patients. Plasma concentration of NO was measured by Colorimetric and Griess reaction and the concentration of ADMA by employing ELISA method. Then the results were analyzed by tstudent test and OneWay ANOVA. Results: There is a positive significance correlation between Hemoglobin (Hb) and NO in SS (r=0.703) and AS (r=0.366) groups. Also, a negative correlation between Hb and ADMA in SS (r=-0.786) and AS (r=-0.478) groups is seen. No correlation is found between these parameters in AA group. Conclusion: The prevention of Hb concentration decrease and prescription of NO donors and (or) ADMA disintegrators can be helpful for improving clinical signs of sickle cell patients. Key words: Nitric oxide (NO), Asymmetric dimethylargininie (ADMA), Sickle cell disease (SCD). Diabetes and Hypertension: Correlation Between Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) and Serum Nitric Oxide
Diabetes mellitus and hypertension frequently coexist. Formation of HbA1c and serum NO have recently documented as disease markers for diabetes and hypertension respectively. This study was aimed to find the correlation between HbA1c and NO anomalies in coexisted diabetes and hypertension. A total of 100 diabetic patients were selected and divided into diabetic normotensive and diabetic hyperte...

full textHemoglobin-mediated nitric oxide signaling.
The rate that hemoglobin reacts with nitric oxide (NO) is limited by how fast NO can diffuse into the heme pocket. The reaction is as fast as any ligand/protein reaction can be and the result, when hemoglobin is in its oxygenated form, is formation of nitrate in what is known as the dioxygenation reaction. As nitrate, at the concentrations made through the dioxygenation reaction, is biologicall...
full textHemoglobin: A Nitric-Oxide Dioxygenase
Members of the hemoglobin superfamily efficiently catalyze nitric-oxide dioxygenation, and when paired with native electron donors, function as NO dioxygenases (NODs). Indeed, the NOD function has emerged as a more common and ancient function than the well-known role in O2 transport-storage. Novel hemoglobins possessing a NOD function continue to be discovered in diverse life forms. Unique hemo...
full textEndogenous Nitric-Oxide Synthase Inhibitor ADMA after Acute Brain Injury
Previous results on nitric oxide (NO) metabolism after traumatic brain injury (TBI) show variations in NO availability and controversial effects of exogenous nitric oxide synthase (NOS)-inhibitors. Furthermore, elevated levels of the endogenous NOS inhibitor asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) were reported in cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) after traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Therefore, w...

abstract background: increase in nitric oxide (no) concentration accompanied by alteration in peritoneal immune defense reactions is involved in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. asymmetric dimethylarginine is an endogenous competitive inhibitor of no synthase. this study was designed to compare no metabolite (nitrite), asymmetric dimethylarginine, and estradiol concentrations in serum and per...
