Abstract:

Background and Aims :The most frequent cause of TMJ dysfunction is internal derangement which that largely involves  the function of the articular disc. Anterior disc displacement (ADD) is one of the major findings in TMJ internal derangement. Since the importance of knowledge of its etiology and also The role of all structural indicators association with TMD was not evaluated, in this research was investigated Correlation between  TMJ structure and disc displacement. Materials and Methods: This study was done based on case-control method. 31 Joints  with TMJ internal derangements and 57 normal joint Were examined. The two groups of clients were matched in age, sex , Economic and social situation. MRI finding was Disk position in Open and closed mouth and  condyle morphology coronal and axial view.MRI findings were Disk position in Open and closed mouth and  condyle morphology coronal and axial view. The data were analyzed using  x2 and Fisher's test. Results: Patients with  TMJ internal derangement (ID), In all three groups  inchiding disk displacement with reduction(DDWR), disk displacement without reduction(DDWOR), anterior disc displacement(ADD), was encountered more frequently in Anterior, Anterior-inferior disk position in closed mouth,A statistically significant correlation was found( P 0.001> ). Also no significant difference was found in measurements between the three groups, for condyle morphology  in coronal and axial view. ( P > 0.4) Conclusion: It seems there is relationship between Anterior disc displacement (ADD) and Anterior, Anterior-inferior disk position in closed. But There is no obvious relationship between Anterior disc displacement (ADD)  And  condyle morphology coronal and axial view

بررسی ارتباط شیب برجستگی مفصلی با حرکات مجموعه کندیل و دیسک در تصاویر MRI مبتلایان به اختلالات داخلی مفصل گیجگاهی فکی

Background and Aims: Internal derangement of the Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the most common form of Temporomandibular disorders, which represents an abnormal internal strucural and functional change of the disk, as well as an abnormal relationship of the disk to the condyle, glenoid fossa and articular eminence when the teeth are in the closed- mouth position. The aim of this study was to...

Accuracy Rate of Clinical Diagnosis of Disc Displacement without Reduction in Temporomandibular Joint Using MRI

Introduction: Internal derangement (ID) of TMJ is the most common type of temporomandibular disorders after muscle disorders and includes all disorders related to incoordination and dislocation of disc and condyle. Anterior disc displacement without reduction or closed lock will happen if the disc or condyle displaces severely or if the disc traps in the space in front of the condyle accompanie...

بررسی ارتباط موقعیت دیسک با مورفولوژی برجستگی مفصلیTMJ در بیماران مبتلا به TMD با استفاده از MRI

Background and Aims: Because of high prevalence of TMJ dysfunctions , increased promotion of diagnostic and treatment methods is necessary. In many cases, in addition to disc position, morphology of other joint components such as articular eminence can be changed and therefore the probable correlation between disc position and morphology of hard tissue components can be used for prediction of i...

Metrical analysis of disc-condyle relation with different splint treatment positions in patients with TMJ disc displacement

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of bite positions characterizing different splint treatments (anterior repositioning and stabilization splints) on the disc-condyle relation in patients with TMJ disc displacement with reduction (DDwR), using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MATERIAL AND METHODS 37 patients, with a mean age of 18.8±4.3 years (7 male and 30 females) and diagnosed with DDwR bas...

Correlation between clinical symptoms and magnetic resonance imaging findings in patients with temporomandibular joint internal derangement

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to clarify which findings in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are good predicators of pain and mouth opening limitation in patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) internal derangement (ID). MATERIALS AND METHODS Clinical examinations for pain and mouth opening limitation were conducted for suspected TMJ ID. MRI scans were taken within a week of cli...
