Abstract:

Background: One of the problems encountered by active population, especially military personnel, is high incidence of musculoskeletal injuries leading to lose work time and high expenses. These injuries occur due to so many reasons, some of which are considered to be modifiable. The aim of the present study was to investigate correlation between some anthropometrical characteristics, core muscle endurance, and dynamic postural stability. Methods: Thirty commandoes (age of 29.45 ± 4.76) selected for this study and underwent assessments. Some anthropometrical indices (height, weight, BMI) have been measured. Then, McGill standardized testing battery (core muscle endurance tests) and dynamic postural stability test have been conducted. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation test (P<.05). Results: Pearson correlation test showed no significant relationship between anthropometrical characteristics, core muscle endurance, and dynamic postural stability index. But significant and negative correlation have been found between some anthropometrical features (weight, BMI) and core muscle endurance tests (P<.05). Conclusion: The findings of the present study showed that there are significant correlation between some anthropometrical features (weight, BMI) and McGill tests (plank, side plank). It means that higher weight and BMI, leads to worse McGill test scores. Therefore, weight control -especially among military personnel- is recommended in order to reduce core muscle weakness and prevent low back pain which is a relatively common problem.

The relation between core stability muscle’s endurance and static balance with shooting performance of military soldiers

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relation between core stability muscle’s endurance and static balance with shooting performance of military soldiers. Methods: One hundred participants of the military training course (age 23/92±1/66 years and weight 73/96±12/77 kg) participated in this study. The shooting test was performed by the subjects and divided them int...

Relationships Between Functional Movement Screen and Pain, Dynamic Balance, and Trunk Muscle Endurance in Military Personnel With Non-Specific Chronic Low Back Pain

Background: Functional disability, impaired balance, and trunk muscle endurance are among the major changes in patients with Non-Specific Chronic Low Back Pain (NCLBP). Investigating the relationship between these factors and Functional Movement Screen (FMS) can facilitate effective pain management and functional problems in these patients. This study aimed to assess the relationships between F...

Studying the Relation Between Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome and Anatomic and Anthropometric Characteristics of Military Male Personnel

BACKGROUND Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (MTSS) is common among military recruits and to our knowledge; the factors that might put the military recruits at higher risk of incidence of MTSS are not well known. OBJECTIVES This study was done to investigate the association between some anthropometric and anatomical factors and the prevalence of MTSS among military recruits. PATIENTS AND METHOD...

Comparison of Static and Dynamic Postural Stability Between Individuals With and Without Forward Head Posture

Purpose: The growing popularity of media devices such as smartphones and computers has made humankind to acquire forward head posture increasingly. This study aimed to compare static and dynamic postural stability between people with and without forward head posture. Methods: 15 male students with normal posture (24±4 years, 173±6 cm and 70±6 kg) and 15 male students with forward head posture ...

Relationship Between Core Stability Power and Endurance with Performance of Adolescence Athletes

Core stability (CS) is a popular term that has evolved into a fundamental concept the much rehabilitation, performance training and preventative programs. The purpose of this study is considering the relationship between CS power and endurance with performance of adolescence athletes. 12 male swimmers participated in the study. McGill Protocol, the core stability power, MBESTT and 30/60 sit-up ...

studying the relation between medial tibial stress syndrome and anatomic and anthropometric characteristics of military male personnel

discussion the prevalence of mtss was relatively lower in this study comparing to other studies on military personnel. it was not probably due to type of military shoes or exercise area surface (none of them were standardized); it could be due to low intensity trainings and the long intervals between training sessions. results data of all the 181 subjects with the mean age of 30.7 ± 4.68 years ...
