Conversion of Alcohols into Amides Using Alumina-Methanesulfonic Acid (AMA) in Nitrile Solvents
Authors
Abstract:
The reaction of tertiary, secondary and benzylic alcohols with different nitriles in the presence of alumina-methanesulfonic acid (AMA) as a new reagent affords the corresponding amides in good yields (Table 1, 2). Conversion of 2,6-bis(hydroxymethyl)-4-halo anisoles into corresponding diamides in the range of 68-76% yields (Table 3) are also included in this paper.

full textmomentum transfer rate constants for collision of cl-with trans-dichloroethylene and para-difluorobenzene
a classical theory is developed which calculates the momentum transfer rate constant between an ion and a non-polar molecule. the model takes into consideration the effect of diffraction outside the capture limit on the rate constants. the theory is used to calculate momentum transfer rate constant for cl- with trans-dichloroethylene and para-difluorobenzene. theoretical results are compared to...
full textMultifaceted catalysis approach to nitrile activation: direct synthesis of halogenated allyl amides from allylic alcohols.
Allyl amides were synthesised from the reaction of allyl alcohols and halogenated nitriles using a platinum multifaceted catalysis approach in which both the nucleophilic addition and subsequent [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement steps of the process were catalysed by the same complex. Additionally, (1)H/(13)C{(1)H} NMR and GC studies provided the first insights into the mechanism of this transfor...
full textRhodium-catalyzed oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols and aldehydes: effective conversion of amines and anilines into amides
The rhodium-catalyzed oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols and aldehydes is reported. In situ generated [(BINAP)Rh]BF4 catalyzes the one-pot isomerization/oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols or direct amidation of aldehydes using acetone or styrene as the hydrogen acceptor. The conditions are general, affording good to excellent yields with a wide array of amine and aniline nucleophiles,...
full textConversion of volatile alcohols into their glucosides in Arabidopsis
Exposure of tomato plants to volatile chemicals emitted from common cutworm (Spodoptera litura)-infested conspecifics led to accumulation of the glycoside, (Z)-3-hexenyl vicianoside. Accumulation of (Z)-3-hexenyl vicianoside in the exposed plants has adverse impacts on the performance of the common cutworms. The aglycon of (Z)-3-hexenyl vicianoside is derived from airborne (Z)-3-hexenol emitted...
full textConversion of aldoximes into nitriles and amides under mild conditions.
A series of Pd(en)X2 salts were used as catalysts for the conversion of aldoximes into nitriles and amides. Highlights of this protocol include the use of inexpensive polar solvents, including water, and moderate reaction temperatures. A high degree of selectivity in the reaction outcome was observed when using aliphatic vs. aromatic/conjugated aldoximes.
