Abstract:

At low pressure, ethylene gas consists of single translating and rotating molecules and behaves as an ideal gas. With decrease of free volume by compression, various rotating supramolecular particles are formed, which require less space for the movement: molecular pairs, bimolecules and oligomolecules. The appearance of a new kind of particles is manifested as a phase transition of the second or third order. An ideal gas consists of single translating and rotating molecules. α phase consists of rotating single molecules and rotating molecular pairs and it exists when the volume V is reduced to Vc

Preparation of Reactive and Thermal Stable Hyperbranched Graft Copolymers/ Clay Nanocomposite via ‘Living’ Free Radical Polymerization

Exfoliated poly (Chloromethyl styrene-co-styrene)-g-polyacrylonitryle/organo- modified montmorillonite [P(CMSt-co-St)-g-PAN/O-MMT] nanocomposite was synthesized through solution intercalation method by using atom transfer and nitroxide mediated radical polymerization. At first, poly (chloromethyl styrene-costyrene) copolymer was synthesized by nitroxide - mediated “living” free radical polyme...

Supercritical behavior in free radical polymerization of ethylene in the medium pressure range.

Free radical polymerization of ethylene in an intermediate pressure and temperature range (P(ethylene) < 250 bar and 50 °C < T < 90 °C) in the presence of an organic solvent has been studied. Under selected conditions (P, T) and according to the amount of organic solvent added, either a supercritical monophasic or a biphasic medium is obtained. In the case of a biphasic medium, polymerization o...

Optimization and Control of Industrial Gas Phase Ethylene Polymerization Reactors

A previously developed mathematical model for ethylene polymerization in a fluidized bed reactor was used to investigate the process static and dynamic behavior. The static analysis determined optimal operating conditions at which the monomer conversion can be increased to 25% per pass. However, this optimal operating point was shown to be unstable and thus any changes in the plant operation ma...

Effect of Small Reaction Locus in Free-Radical Polymerization: Conventional and Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization "2279

Abstract: When the size of a polymerization locus is smaller than a few hundred nanometers, such as in miniemulsion polymerization, each locus may contain no more than one key-component molecule, and the concentration may become much larger than the corresponding bulk polymerization, leading to a significantly different rate of polymerization. By focusing attention on the component having the l...

Initiation of Free-Radical Polymerization Waves

Frontal polymerization is a process of converting a monomer into a polymer by means of a self-propagating thermal reaction wave. We study initiation of polymerization waves by a high temperature heat source. A five species reaction model is considered with a focus on the evolution of two of these species and the temperature of the mixture. The temperature is tracked from the inert heating to th...

Nanostructured hybrid hydrogels prepared by a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization and free radical polymerization.

A new method to prepare nanostructured hybrid hydrogels by incorporating well-defined poly(oligo (ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether methacrylate) (POEO(300)MA) nanogels of sizes 110-120 nm into a larger three-dimensional (3D) matrix was developed for drug delivery scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. Rhodamine B isothiocyanate-labeled dextran (RITC-Dx) or fluorescein isothiocyanate-lab...
