Comparison of Personality substraits between Individuals with Suicide Attempt and Suicide Ideation based on SWAP-200

  Background: Suicide ideation and attempts are among common clinical problems that burden many costs to societies. This study was conducted to compare personality substraits among individuals with suicide ideation and suicide attempts. methods: A descriptive research method with expose-facto design was chosen. The population was including all clients who referred to Damghan velayat hospital and  rooyesh psychological clinic in 2019. Two samples including 27 suicide attempters and 33 suicide ideators were selected by an available sampling procedure. Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation, as well as, Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure (SWAP-200) were applied for screening puroses. Data extracted and were analyzed by a multivariate analysis of variance via SPSS-24 software. Results: The final results were shown significantly higher means for psychopathy, emotional dysregulation and thought disorder profiles (P<0.01) for suicide attempters, while higher means observed for mental health, dysphoria and sexual conflict profiles (P<0.01) for suicide ideators. No significant difference evident for other personality profiles. Conclusion: It could be concluded that, underlying personality substraits for suicidal ideation and attempt are different which may be pivotal in understanding the etiology of two problems and for preventive and therapeutic purposes to reduce the phenomenon of suicide in the community.
