Comparison of In Vitro Fertilization/Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection Cycle Outcome in Patients with and without Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Modified Poisson Regression Model
Authors
Abstract:
Objective Polycystic ovary syndrome is a frequent condition in women of reproductive age with prevalence rate of 5-10%. This study purposed to determine the relationship between polycystic ovary syndrome and the outcome of assisted reproductive treatment (ART) cycle in Tehran, Iran. MaterialsAndMethods In this historical cohort study, 996 infertile women were included in the study between January 2012 and December 2013. Polycystic ovary syndrome as a main variable and other potential confounder variables were gathered. Modified Poisson Regression was used to analyze the data. Stata software, version 13 was used for all statistical analyses. Results Unadjusted analysis showed that the risk of failure in polycystic ovary syndrome cases was significantly lower than whom did not have polycystic ovary syndrome (risk ratio: 0.79, 95% CI: 0.66-0.95, p=0.014). After adjusting for the confounder variables, there was no difference between risk of non pregnancy in women with and without polycystic ovary syndrome (risk ratio: 0.87, 95% CI: 0.72-1.05, p=0.15). The treatment protocol type, the number of embryo transferred grade A and AB, the number of injected ampoule, and age were the significant predictors of ART cycle outcome. Conclusion The results obtained from this model showed that no difference was found between patients with and without polycystic ovary syndrome according to the risk of non pregnancy. Therefore, other factors during may be effective to conceive patients with PCOs.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in reproductive age women. The prevalence of PCOS among Iranian women is 14.6% based on the Rotterdam definition. PCOS can increase the risk of chronic metabolic complications. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is one of the most important of them. Insulin resistance is fundamental in PCOS and MetS pathophysiology. MetS ...

Background The prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been studied in different populations, but their results were so controversial regarding Iranian women. These controversial data indicated the need for more investigation of MetS characteristics in PCOS patients in our population. So this study aimed to evaluate the clinical and laboratory characteris...
