Comparison of Depression, Suicidal Ideation and Social Support between Transsexual People with and without Gender Change

Abstract:

Abstract Aim: The main purpose of this research was to comparsion of depression, suicidal ideation and social support between transsexual with and without change gender.   Materials and Methods: This is a causal-comparative study. The statistical population included all members of the transsexual with and without change gender the association for the protection of Iran gender dysphoric patients in 1397 (N = 249). 60 subjects (30 transsexuals with change gender and 30 without change gender) were selected in an accessible method and completed the Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Suicidal Thoughts, and Sherburne & Stewart Social Support. Data were analyzed by multivariate analysis of variance.     Results: The findings showed that there was a significant difference between transsexual with and without change gender in terms of suicidal ideation and social support (P ≤ 0.01), but there was no significant difference in depression.     Conclusion: Based on the findings of the research, it can be concluded that transsexual with change gender tend to be more socially supported, but However, in both transsexual groups, there is a moderate amount of depression and suicidal ideation.
