Coductometric studies of the interaction of acid green 25 with cationic alkyltrimethylammonium bromid surfactants
Authors
Abstract:
The interactions between an anionic dye, Acid Green 25 AG and the two cationic surfactants tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide TTAB, and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide CTAB in aqueous solutions far below the CMC are studied using the conductometric method at different temperature. The equilibrium constants and other thermodynamic functions for the process of dye-surfactant ion pair formation were calculated by the conductometric data. The results showed that the surfactant which contained the longer hydrophobic chain had a stronger tendency to associate with the dye and the equilibrium constant was considerably higher than those measured for the surfactant with the shorter hydrophobic chain. These results indicate that short range, non-electrostatic interactions have a significant influence on dye -surfactant ion pair formation as well as long range electrostatic forces.

A novel quaternary ammonium-based cationic gemini surfactant (S6) having 1,6 di-bromo hexane as a spacer, have been used and its interaction with insulin in aqueous solution (pH, 7.40) was investigated by several methods including fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, circular dichroism, dynamic light scattering, ζ-potential measurements, conductivity and transmission electron microsc...
full textSpectral studies on the interaction of cationic dye/surfactants with Klebsiella K28 capsular polysaccharide Abstract
Spectral studies on the interaction of acidic capsular polysaccharide (SPS), isolated from Klebsiella K28, with cationic dye and surfactants have been reported. The polymer induced strong metachromasy(~ 100 nm blue shift) in the cyanine dye pinacyanol bromide (PCYB). The SPS consists of D-glucose, D-galactose, D-mannose and D-glucuronic acid (2:1:2:1) molar ratio) in hexasaccharide repeating un...

full textInteraction of cationic surfactants with DNA: a single-molecule study
The interaction of cationic surfactants with single dsDNA molecules has been studied using force-measuring optical tweezers. For hydrophobic chains of length 12 and greater, pulling experiments show characteristic features (e.g. hysteresis between the pulling and relaxation curves, force-plateau along the force curves), typical of a condensed phase (compaction of a long DNA into a micron-sized ...
