Abstract:

Staphylococci isolated from 98 mastitic cow’s milk samples were analyzed for the production of alpha, beta and delta-hemolysin on sheep, bovine and horse red blood cells and in vitro susceptibility to several antimicrobial agents. Out of a total of 18 isolated strains, 100% demonstrated hemolytic activity either alone or in combined forms. Among 8 isolates of S. aureus 3 isolates produced α/β and 5 produced α/β/δ hemolysins. From 10 isolates of coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS), 2 α, 2 δ, 2 α/δ and 4 α/β/δ hemolysins producing isolates were confirmed. S. aureus isolates were resistant to cloxacillin (100%), penicillin (87%) and ampicillin (62.5%). CNSs showed resistance only to amoxicillin (60%). The results suggest that a cow’s infected mammary glands are an important reservoir of hemolytic staphylococci. A high degree of S. aureus antimicrobial resistances was detected.

Study on some characteristics of Staphylococci isolated from sheep sub clinical mastitis milk in Shahrekord, Iran

Introduction: Staphylococci release a large number of enzymes. Some of these, such as coagulase, beta lactamase, hemolysins and biofilms are considered indices of pathogenicity. The aim of the current study was based on the isolation and identification of Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase negative Staphylococci (CNS) strains from sheep sub clinical mastitis and examining their biofilm, beta l...

Production of slime by coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) isolated from clinical and subclinical mastitis in cows.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the slime-producing ability of coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) isolated from clinical and subclinical mastitis in cows. The study was carried out on 100 isolates of CNS obtained from milk of 86 cows from farms located in the Lublin region (Poland). Slime-producing ability was observed in over half of coagulase-negative staphylococci (54.0% of isolated...

Prevalence and molecular characterization of staphylococci isolated from sheep with subclinical mastitis in West-Azerbaijan province, Iran

This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of subclinical mastitis caused by Staphylococcus spp. in ewes in West-Azerbaijan province of Iran. Molecular characterization of isolated Staphylococcus spp. from diseased ewes were performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) and DNA sequencing of gly...

Virulence Factors in Coagulase-negative Staphylococci Isolated from Cows with Subclinical Mastitis

The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of virulence genes in 46 coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) strains isolated from 46 udder quarters of 46 cows with subclinical mastitis. The isolates were examined phenotypically (cultural features, Gram stain, catalase, coagulase, API tests) and genotypically for: icaA, icaAB, icaD, atlE, bhp, agrA, sarA, mecA, and blaZ genes. These is...

Comparative antibiogram of coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CNS) associated with subclinical and clinical mastitis in dairy cows

AIM The present study was planned to determine the in vitro antibiotic susceptibility of coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CNS) strains isolated from clinical and subclinical cases of mastitis in dairy cows. Antibiotic sensitivity profile will be helpful to recommend early therapy at the field level prior to availability of CST results. MATERIALS AND METHODS The milk samples from cases of cli...
