CALCULATION OF OSMOTIC PRESSURE USING A CLOSED SYSTEM MODEL

Authors: not saved
Abstract:

In this work we have used a closed system model to derive an analytical equation for the osmotic pressure of two component electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions. In order to do so, we have used an equation of state, known as the dense system equation of state (DSEOS), for the model system. Based on the model, a new definition is given for the osmotic pressure of a closed system. Good agreement between the calculated and experimental osmotic pressure is obtained. Using the results obtained for the osmotic pressure along with some exact thermodynamic arguments, we have calculated the solvent activity for some electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solutions. The calculated activities are found to be in good agreement with the experiment, in such a way that for the NaCl solutions the deviations for the calculated activities are less than 0.02% for solutions up to six molal

AGAINST THE VALIDITY OF THE CLOSED SYSTEM MODEL FOR CALCULATING OSMOTIC PRESSURE

This paper criticizes the model and the new definition for osmotic pressure given by Parsafar et al. [J. Sci. I. R. Iran, Vol. 10, No. 4, 233 (1999)]. The model is a closed system containing 1 kg of solvent plus m mole of solute at constant temperature and under pressure P0 + ? where P0 is the standard pressure and ? is the osmotic pressure of the corresponding m molal solution. While the total...

Two Phase Flow Pressure Drop Calculation Using Homogeneous Equilibrium Model

Although two-phase flow is frequently encountered in various location of the process plants, there is no a general accepted and verified two-phase flow model that may be used to size lines for such conditions. An obvious example is condensate water return lines. The API method that used in this study is based on the homogeneous equilibrium flow assumption, that is, equal velocity and equal temp...

the use of appropriate madm model for ranking the vendors of mci equipments using fuzzy approach

abstract nowadays, the science of decision making has been paid to more attention due to the complexity of the problems of suppliers selection. as known, one of the efficient tools in economic and human resources development is the extension of communication networks in developing countries. so, the proper selection of suppliers of tc equipments is of concern very much. in this study, a ...

A closed circulatory system model.

The model to be described is a “closed” system, comprised of four principal components : a pump, an arterial capacitance, a peripheral resistance, and a venous capacitance. The pump is servo-controlled, such that “cardiac output” is a function of venous pressure (FrankStarling mechanism). Also, because the model is a closed system, the venous pressure is a function of the cardiac output. The mo...
