Biplot Analysis of diallel crosses for yield and some morphological traits in durum wheat
Authors
Abstract:
Six varieties of durum wheat were included in a full diallel mating design during 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 cropping seasons in the farm of Maragheh Dryland Agricultural Research Institute (DARI), Iran. Parental durum wheat genotypes and their complete diallel progenies were grown in a randomized complete block design with two replications in the growing seasons of 2005-06. The highest values of number of seeds per spike, one hundred seed weight and seed yield were obtained in Gerdish. The GCA effects indicated that Zardak was an ideal general combiner for one hundred seed weight, coleoptile length, number of germinated seeds, number of seeds per spike, growth vigor and radicle length. Crosses of Knd1149//68/ward × Waha and Zardak × Chehel daneh exhibited the highest value of seed yield and significant heterosis. Graphic analysis indicated that the hybrid between Knd1149//68/ward and Waha was the best hybrid for seed yield, because it integrated the four genes (A2, D1, D2 and probably D3) for seed yield. Zardak, Knd1149//68/ward and Gerdish can be used either as the best parents for selection programs based on their GCA effects, or as a superior parent in hybrid programs based on their SCA effects.

Diallel analysis of some important Morpho-Phenological traits in bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) crosses
Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is the most important food crop. It offers a great wealth of material for genetic studies due to its wide ecological distribution. The effects of GCA and SCA of morpho-phenological traits i.e. days to emergence, days to flowering, days to maturity, flag leaf length, grain filling duration, spike weight per plant, stem weight and grain yield were studied uti...

Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: Wheat is one of the most important crops in the world that plays a key role in ensuring food security. In wheat breeding programs, selection of genotypes with desirable agronomic traits and high yield potential have always been the goal of plant breeders. Increasing the selection efficiency for grain yield depends on genetic knowledge from morpholo...
full textBiplot Analysis of Diallel Data.
Diallel crosses have been used in genetic research to determine the inheritance of important traits among a set of genotypes and to identify superior parents for hybrid or cultivar development. Conventional diallel analysis is limited to partitioning the total variation of the data into general combining ability (GCA) of each genotype and specific combining ability (SCA) of each cross. In this ...
full textVariations of Grain Yield and Agro-Morphological Traits of Some Promising Durum Wheat Lines (Triticum turgidum L. var. durum) at Zinc Sufficient and Deficient Conditions
Successful production and development of stable and adaptable genotypes only depend on the positive results achieved from the interaction between genotype and environment that consequently has a significant impact on breeding strategies. In this regard, we conducted an experiment to study genotypic differences of 16 lines durum wheat under both zinc sufficient and deficient stress during 2014-2...
full textGenetic Analysis of Grain Yield and Yield Components in Bread Wheat using Hayman's Diallel Method
Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: By progeny trial after a diallel crossing, the function of genes and inheritance of quantitative traits can be estimated. This increases the ability to select parental lines, to participate in crosses, and determines the management of generations in the segregating populations. Material and Methods: In order to understand the genetic structure of ...
full textTraits Explaining Durum Wheat (Triticum turgidum L. spp. Durum) Yield in Dry Chilean Mediterranean Environments
Yield under water stress (YS) is used as the main criterion in the selection of wheat varieties for dry Mediterranean environments. It has been proposed that selection of genotypes using YS assisted by morphological and physiological traits associated with YS is more efficient in selecting high yielding genotypes for dry environments. A study was carried out at the Antumapu Experiment Station o...
