Bayesian approaches for optimizing warranty length of products

author

Abstract:

‎Today's manufacturers face increasingly intense competition and to remain profitable they needed to design‎, ‎develop and produce high reliable products‎. ‎One way by which manufacturers attract consumers to their products is by providing warranties on the products‎. ‎Consumers are willing to purchase a longer warranty period product‎. ‎While maintaining such a policy needs very high cost for manufacturers‎. ‎Determining the appropriate warranty length becomes an important decision problem for manufacturers‎. ‎In this article‎, ‎by Bayesian approach and using an appropriate utility function‎, ‎we determine the optimal warranty lengths for product with exponential life time distribution‎.

Optimal production run length for products sold with warranty

The paper studies the optimal production run length for a deteriorating production system. The optimal warranty cost is determined by a balance between the warranty cost of the manufacturer and the buyer during its warranty period. It is assumed that the elapsed time until the production process shift is age dependent and arbitrarily distributed. The objective is to minimize the total cost per ...

Forecasting warranty claims for recently launched products

Forecasting warranty claims for recently launched products that have short histories of claim records is vitally important for manufacturers in preparing their fiscal plans. Since the amount of historical claim data for such products is not large enough, developing forecasting models with good performance has been a difficult problem. The objective of this paper is to develop an algorithm for f...

Warranty cost analysis for nonrepairable services products

Many services products are installed in a complex system that is operated only when the entire system is completed. The time from their installation to commissioning, called a dormant state in this paper, may take several years for systems such as complete buildings or aircraft. Warranties for the products may cover the time starting from their installation to a certain time. Warranty cost on r...

Warranty Cost Analysis for Second-Hand Products

For second-hand products sold with warranty, the expected warranty cost for an item to the manufacturer, depends on (i) the age and/or usage as well as the maintenance history for the item and (ii) the terms of the warranty policy. The paper develops probabilistic models to compute the expected warranty cost to the manufacturer when the items are sold with free replacement or pro rata warrantie...

Two-dimensional warranty for an End-of-Life derived products

This paper presents an approach to determine a two-dimensional warranty period for the components, materials and products derived from End-of-Life products to meet components, materials and products demands while minimizing the cost associated with warranty and maximizing the manufacturer’s profits.

Warranty Servicing with Imperfect Repair for Products Sold with a Two-Dimensional Warranty

In this paper, a new servicing strategy with imperfect repair is defined and studied for the manufacturer of a product sold with a two-dimensional warranty. The strategy is based on a specified region of the warranty defined in terms of age and usage, with the first failure in the region rectified by an imperfect repair and all other failures being minimally repaired. Product failures are model...
