Abstract:

Learning ability and memory duration are two inseparable factors which can increase theefficiency of a living organism during its lifetime. Trichgramma brassice Bezdenko (Hym.:Trichogrammatidae) is a biological control agent widely used against different pest species. This research was conducted to study the olfactory associative learning ability and memoryduration of T. brassicae under laboratory conditions. According to our results, T. brassicaeshowed olfactory learning ability in response to conditioned odors, and this learned olfactorystimuli lasted for 20 hours. In a second experiment, the effects of frequent experiences on thememory duration of females were studied. A direct relationship between frequent experiencesand memory duration was observed. When exposed to a conditioned odor, wasps’ memoryduration increased in response to the number of experiences. Memory was observed at 28 hafter one extra conditioning. The duration of the associative memory lasted 42 hours when 2extra experiences were given, 50 hours after 3 experiences, and 58 hours after 4 extraconditioning experiences. Our results showed that T. brassicae can associate new odors to hostexistence, and they will show increased memory duration after multiple experiences.

learning and memory duration of wolbachia infected trichogramma brassicae (hym.: trichogrammatidae)

learning host or prey-related olfactory cues may lead to increase efficiency and foraging capacity of biocontrol agents such as trichogramma egg parasitoid wasps in nature. the egg parasitoids, trichogramma species (hym., chalcidoidea, trichogrammatidae), are most commonly and important biocontrol agents that have successfully been utilized against several lepidopteran pests, especially through...

the relationship between using language learning strategies, learners’ optimism, educational status, duration of learning and demotivation

with the growth of more humanistic approaches towards teaching foreign languages, more emphasis has been put on learners’ feelings, emotions and individual differences. one of the issues in teaching and learning english as a foreign language is demotivation. the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the components of language learning strategies, optimism, duration o...

Reinforcement Learning in Associative Memory

A reinforcement learning based associative memory structure (RLAM) is proposed. In this structure, a one-layer feed forward Palm [1] model is applied to the networks. Instead of batch training, an on-line learning method is used to construct the memory. The networks are trained interactively according to reinforcement learning, which is biologically plausible. The experiment results show that t...

Prefrontal dopamine in associative learning and memory.

Learning to associate specific objects or actions with rewards and remembering the associations are everyday tasks crucial for our flexible adaptation to the environment. These higher-order cognitive processes depend on the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and frontostriatal circuits that connect areas in the frontal lobe with the striatum in the basal ganglia. Both structures are densely innervated by ...

Incremental Learning of Limited Kernel Associative Memory

This paper proposes a limited kernel associative memory, where the number of kernels is limited to a certain number. This model aims to be used on embedded systems with a small amount of storage space. The learning algorithm for the kernel associative memory is an improved version of the limited general regression neural network, which was proposed by one of the authors. In the experiments, we ...
