Association of Perceived Social Support With Health Promoting Lifestyle in Women Participating in Breast Cancer Early Detection Program

Abstract:

Objectives: Because of the importance of perceived social support And its relation with healthy lifestyle, In this study, the mean score of social support and health promoting lifestyle And their correlation was evaluated in women who participated in the breast cancer early detection program. Methods: In this study, 1000 women participating in breast cancer screening from 17 health centers in Arak were selected by the quota sampling method. Two questionnaires of perceived Social Support and Health Promoting Lifestyle profile were completed for them. To describe the variables, mean±SD, frequency and percentage were used. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used for correlation analysis. Results: The mean ages of the participants were 33.78 ± 11.30 years. There was a significant correlation between perceived social support and health promoting lifestyle (r = 0.42). In correlation with health promoting lifestyle subgroups with perceived social support, the highest was related to self-actualization and the least to physical activity (r=0.46 to 0.26). Regarding the influence of perceptual, social support subgroups on health promoting lifestyle, the highest and least impact were respectively the support of family and friends (r = 0.40 and r = 0.30). Conclusion: According to the results of the study, there is a direct and significant relationship between perceived social support and health promoting lifestyle. So by increasing social support, can improve healthy lifestyle.
