Association of Climate with Acute Myocardial Infarction Hospitalizations
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: Regarding the association between climate, seasons and myocardial infarction, a cross-sectional study was carried out in Shiraz and Bandar Abbas in Iran. Methods: All patients with diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction living in Shiraz and Bandar Abbas were included in the study during 2011-2013. Demographic data were extracted from the patients’ hospital records. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, student’s t-test, and Chi-square test with SPSS software. Results: A total of 2626 patients were admitted with acute myocardial infarction of which 1546 were from Shiraz and 1080 from Bandar Abbas. Admission rate due to myocardial infarction was 0.12 in Shiraz and 0.24 in Bandar Abbas. In Shiraz, 35.2% were female and 34% in Bandar Abbas, Mean age of female patients was 65.68 years in Shiraz and 62.46 in Bandar Abbas while mean age of male patients in Shiraz was 60.39 years and 57.22 years in Bandar Abbas. Difference of admissions in 4 seasons was statistically significant in Shiraz, but not significant in Bandar Abbas (P>0.05). Seasonal variation of myocardial infarction had no correlation with gender or age of the patients. Conclusion: Incidence of myocardial infarction in Shiraz was half of the incidence rate in Bandar Abbas. In summer of low altitude humid areas, extra healthcare should be provided to high risk patients with coronary artery diseases, whereas this caution should be taken in high altitude areas with cold winter to minimize incident of myocardial infarction.

Rapid Diagnosis of Acute Myocardial Infarction
To improve the specificity of biochemical markers of myocardial infarction (MI) a method to measure cardiac troponin-I (CTn-I) was developed. CTn-I is a protein unique to cardiac muscle and is released after MI. Consecutive 150 patients admitted to the coronary care unit was studied. Value of CTn-I was determined in all samples. CTn-I concentration in the MI patients group was increased com...
full textEmotional Triggers of Acute Myocardial Infarction
Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death around the world. Identification of triggers that lead to acute coronary events in ischemic heart diseases and their prevention can reduce the complications of myocardial infarction. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine emotional triggers in patients with acute Myocardial Infarction (MI). Materials and Metho...

Technetium-99m-pyrophosphate (99mTc-PYP) has been used, in combination with thallium-201, to estimate the site and extent of myocardial infarcts. We report a case of acute myocardial infarction with severe coronary disease in which the distribution of 99mTc-PYP was extensive. A 78-year-old man presented with dyspnea, and a diagnosis of non-ST-segment elevation acute myocar...

Some investigatoes reported taht there is a relationship between.H.pylori chronic infection and the prevalence of acute coronary artery disease(CAD).it is suggested that H.pylori chronic infection causes some changes in serum levels of lipids an lipoproteins and produces inflamatory proteins which could give rise to thrombogenesis.in order to comfirm any correlation between positive history of...
full textPostal questionnaires identified hospitalizations for self-reported acute myocardial infarction.
OBJECTIVE We validated the diagnoses of self-reported acute myocardial infarction (AMI) treated in hospital. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING The agreement between myocardial infarction reported in a postal questionnaire in 1998 and data from the Augsburg Coronary Event Register were assessed in a representative sample of German men and women (n = 9,176) aged 25 to 74 years at baseline examination. ...
full textOpium dependency and in-hospital outcome of acute myocardial infarction
Background :Impact of substance abuse on outcome of hospitalized patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) is a frequent question. Available studies show disagreements over its impact, thus we performed this study to find a clear answer. Methods : In a cross sectional study, 304 patients (include 152 consecutive opium dependents and equal number of independents) with acute MI admitted ...
