Association mapping for resistance to powdery mildew in oriental tobacco (Nicotiana tabaccum L.) germplasm
Authors
Abstract:
Powdery mildew caused by Erysiphe cichoracearum is an important fungal disease which threatens tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) production. The objective of this study was to determine DNA markers linked to genomic regions associated with resistance to powdery mildew in tobacco through the association mapping approach. Seventy tobacco geno-types were fingerprinted using 26 simple se-quence repeat (SSR) primer pairs which were distributed in several chromosomes of tobac-co. A total number of 66 alleles were detected by 26 SSR primers with an average of 2.53 alleles per locus. Based on population struc-ture analysis, the studied genotypes were classified into three groups including Chopogh, PD and Tikolak genotypes. Ou of 325 marker pairs, 6.15% showed a significant level of linkage disequilibrium (LD) (P

Identifying Resistance to Powdery Mildew Race 2W in the USDA-ARS Watermelon Germplasm Collection
Powdery mildew caused by Podosphaera xanthii has recently become an important disease of watermelon [Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai] in the United States. The disease can be controlled with fungicides, but it would be more economical and environmentally safe to use genetic resistance. Here, we report sources of resistance to powdery mildew race 2W identifi ed in the evaluation of th...
full textanalysis of genetic variation for morphological and agronomic traits in iranian oriental tobacco (nicotiana tabaccum l.) genotypes
to assess the genetic diversity for morphological and agronomic traits in iranian oriental tobacco germplasm,100 oriental and semi-oriental tobacco genotypes from the urmieh tobacco research center collection were evaluated in the field using a simple square lattice design with two replications. some agronomic traits were measured on five randomly selected plants in each plot. genotypes were cl...
full textAssociation of leaf micro-morphological characters with powdery mildew resistance in field-grown mulberry (Morus spp.) germplasm
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Micro-morphological characteristics can influence fungal infectivity. We sought links between micro-morphology and resistance to powdery mildew in mulberry with the intention of assisting selection of disease-resistant lines. METHODOLOGY Over 3 years and under field conditions, we evaluated 30 lines of mulberry with contrasting susceptibilities to powdery mildew (15 resist...
full textQTL Analysis and Nested Association Mapping for Adult Plant Resistance to Powdery Mildew in Two Bread Wheat Populations
CIMMYT wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) lines Francolin#1 and Quaiu#3 displayed effective and stable adult plant resistance (APR) to Chinese Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici isolates in the field. To elucidate their genetic basis of resistance, two recombinant inbred line (RIL) populations of their crosses with Avocet, the susceptible parent, were phenotyped in Zhengzhou and Shangqiu in the 2014-20...
full textBiological and chemical induction of resistance to the Globodera tabacum solanacearum in oriental and flue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.).
The effects of acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM) and four combinations of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) on the reproduction of a tobacco cyst nematode, Globodera tabacum solanacearum, and growth of Nicotiana tabacum (cv. K326 and Xanthi) were tested under greenhouse and field conditions. The PGPR included combinations of Bacillus subtilis A13 with B. pumilis INR7, B. pumilis SE34, B. lic...
full textMolecular Mapping of PMR1, a Novel Locus Conferring Resistance to Powdery Mildew in Pepper (Capsicum annuum)
Powdery mildew, caused by Leveillula taurica, is a major fungal disease affecting greenhouse-grown pepper (Capsicum annuum). Powdery mildew resistance has a complex mode of inheritance. In the present study, we investigated a novel powdery mildew resistance locus, PMR1, using two mapping populations: 102 'VK515' F2:3 families (derived from a cross between resistant parental line 'VK515R' and su...
