Association between Interleukin-8 -251T/A Polymorphism and Endometriosis in Iranian Women
Authors
Abstract:
Bachground: Endometriosis is a disease of female genital system, which is defined by the presence of ectopic endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. IL-8 is an autocrine growth factor in the endometrium that contributes to the pathogenesis of endometriosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between -251T/A polymorphism in the IL-8 gene and endometriosis risk in Iranian population. Materials and Methods: This case-control study was performed on 100 endometriosis patients and 100 healthy individuals. The IL-8 -251T/A genotypes were determined using PCR-RFLP method. The association between genotypes of the -251T/A polymorphism and the endometriosis risk was examined by use of odds ratios (OR) and 95% of confidence intervals (CIs). Results: No statistically significant associations were observed between IL-8 -251 variants and the risk of endometriosis development (&chi2: 1.02, P: 0.63). In addition, subgroup analysis according to severity of disease, were unable to identify any association between IL-8 -251T/A polymorphism and endometriosis (P>0.05), and there was no significant association between IL-8 -251T/A and the severity of endometriosis. Conclusions: This is the first study regard to association of -251T/A polymorphism with endometriosis risk. Our results indicate that the presence of the -251T/A polymorphism in IL-8 gene is not associated with the risk of endometriosis.

Objective Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease, affects women’s quality of life. Several studies revealed that both environmental and genetic factors contribute to the development of endometriosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution of ABO and Rh blood groups in Iranian women with endometriosis referring to two referral infertility centers in Tehran, Iran. Mate...

Background: Human Papilloma viruses (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) and the most important pathogenic factor for cervical intraepithelial lesions and carcinoma therefore a significant source of morbidity and mortality worldwide. This study was designed to investigate reproductive and medical factors associated with HPV infection in women referred to Colposcopy clin...
full textLack of association between LIPC-514 C/T polymorphism of hepatic lipase and endometriosis in Iranian women.
AIM Patients with endometriosis may suffer from dyslipidemia. Hepatic lipase (HL) is involved in the metabolism of lipoproteins and has an important role in reverse cholesterol transport. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the LIPC-514 C/T polymorphism in the HL gene and the risk of endometriosis in a group of Iranian women. METHODS Ninety-seven patients with end...
full textThe association between single nucleotide polymorphism in interleukin-27 gene and recurrent pregnancy loss in Iranian women
BACKGROUND Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) has been defined as two or more miscarriages before 20(th) week of gestation. It seems that IL-27 may reduce inflammatory responses and affect the survival of the embryo during human pregnancy. IL-27 polymorphisms may influence RPL by altering the levels or the activity of gene product. OBJECTIVE We studied for the first time the association of IL-27 ...
full textLack of Association between Interleukin 23R (IL-23R) rs10889677 Polymorphism and Inflammatory Bowel Disease Susceptibility In an Iranian Population
Background: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), which include ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD), are inflammatory disorders that affect the gastrointestinal tract. A combination of inflammatory cytokines has an important role in IBD development. Genome-wide association studies have shown that polymorphisms in the interleukin-23R gene (IL-23R) increase susceptibility to IBD....
