Abstract:

Introduction: Cadmium is recognized worldwide as a toxic metal. In this study, Solvent-Assisted Dispersive Solid Phase Extraction (SA-DSPE) combined with Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (FAAS), was used for determination of trace amounts of Cadmium (Cd-II)) in drinking water samples. Correspondence: Omid Rahmanian, PhD. Department of Environmental Health, Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences. Bandar Abbas, Iran Tel:+98 9177925646 Email: [email protected] Methods: In this approach, the dispersion of the sorbent was achieved by injecting a mixture of solution of the sorbent and dispersive solvent into the aqueous sample. Thereby, a cloudy solution formed. The cloudy solution was centrifuged and the enriched Cd (II) in the sediment phase dissolved in ethanol and determined by FAAS. Some effective parameters for SA-DSPE, such as: pH, concentration of chelating agent, type and amount of sorbent, type and volume of dispersive solvent and salt effect were investigated and optimized. Results: Under the optimized conditions, the detection limit for Cd (II) ions was 0.6 ng mL-1. Calibration curve was made in the range of 1-300 ng mL-1, obtaining good linearity (R2=0.9930). Finally, SA-DSPE was successfully applied for trace determination of Cd (II) in drinking water samples. Conclusion: SA-DSPE is environment friendly and strongly against high contents of salt. The other benefits of the method are its simplicity, ease of operation, good precision, short extraction time, low cost, and a good enrichment factor.

Determination of Iron Species by Combination of Solvent Assisted-Dispersive Solid Phase Extraction and Spectrophotometry

A simple, rapid and sensitive solvent assisted-dispersive solid phase extraction method was developed for the extraction of iron(II) prior to its spectrophotometric determination. The Fe(II) reacted with 2,4,6-tris(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine, neutralized with sodium dodecyl sulfate and extracted onto the fine particles of benzophenone which were formed upon rapid injection of a mixture of benzop...

Combination of Solid Phase Extraction and Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry for Trace Analysis of Cadmium

Application of graphene oxide- magnetic nanoparticle for solid phase extraction of trace amounts of cadmium ions in environmental samples

Abstract In this work, Fe3O4-graphene oxide nanocomposite (GO-Fe3O4) was prepared as effective absorbent for magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of trace quantities of cadmium ions in environmental water and rice samples using 1, 2-dihydroxy anthraquinone-3-sulphonic acid, sodium salt (Alizarin red S) and flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The   GO-Fe3O4 was characterized by scanni...

Ion Pair Dispersive Liquid-Liquid Microextraction for the Determination of Trace Amounts of Copper(II) in Soil, Multivitamin Tablet, Tea and Water Samples Using Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry

Ion pair dispersive liquid- liquid microextraction (IP-DLLME) method combined with flame atomic absorption spectrometry was proposed for the determination of trace amounts of copper(II). By using pyrocatechol violet as chelating agent and cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide as an ion pairing agent, the trace amount of copper(II) was extracted in chloroform. The factors influencing the formation cop...

Development of ultrasound-assisted emulsification microextraction for the determination of trace zinc and copper by flame atomic absorption spectrometry

In this work, we developed a method based on ultrasound-assisted emulsification microextraction (USAEME) for the determination of zinc and copper by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The method is based on the use of the organic solvent carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) as an extraction solvent. In order to obtain a high enrichment factor, the effect of different parameters affecting the c...
