Application of Intelligent Water Drops in Transient Analysis of Single Conductor Overhead Lines Terminated to Grid-Grounded Arrester under Direct Lightning Strikes

Authors

Abstract:

In this paper, Intelligent water drop algorithm (IWD) is used to analyze single overhead line connected to grid-grounded arrester. In this approach, at first Norton’s equivalent circuit of the overhead line over lossy soil is computed by method of moments (MoM) and then for the problem under consideration, a nonlinear equivalent circuit in the frequency domain is proposed. Finally applying intelligent water drop algorithm (IWD), nonlinear analysis is efficiently analyzed and transient voltage across the arrester is easily computed. Comparison of the achieved voltage with transient solvers shows good agreement as well as fast run-time.    the achieved voltage with transient solvers shows good agreement as well as fast run-time.

Transient Analysis of the Single-Conductor Overhead Lines Connected to Grid-Grounded Arrester under Direct Lightning by Means of GA

In this paper, genetic algorithm-based approach for transient analysis of single transmission line connected to arrester is proposed. In this approach, the lightning channel striking the overhead line is first represented by a current source and this source is truncated by a finite set of frequency harmonies in time domain. Norton equivalent circuit viewed across arrester is then computed by me...

High Frequency Analysis of Single Overhead Line Terminated to Grounded Arrester

In this paper, intelligent models based on fuzzy inference are proposed to analyze single overhead line terminated to arrester. This paper consists of two parts. The first one is modeling overhead line and the second one is related to modeling grounding system. In each part, the behavior of the problem is first represented as simple and unchanged membership functions. After then, effects of par...

Evaluation of Arrester’s Protection Levels during Lightning Strikes to Overhead Medium Voltage Lines

This paper present an evaluation of overvoltages in low-voltage LV installation in buildings in cases of direct lightning strikes to overhead medium voltage lines. The study considered typical power systems with lowand medium voltage surge arresters. The calculation have been performed using the EMPTATP

Lightning Protection of Overhead Power Distribution Lines

Distribution lines are often located in areas with high ground flash densities, being therefore subject to lightning-caused power interruptions. This paper presents an overview of the various types of lightning overvoltages that can arise on overhead power distribution networks, as well as typical voltage waveforms. The effectivenesses of the most important methods for mitigating such overvolta...

Electromagnetic Field Due to Lightning Strikes to Mountainous Ground

The produced electric and magnetic fields due to lightning strikes to mountainous ground are determined in this paper. For the sake of simplicity a cone-shaped ground with finite conductivity is assumed to represent a natural nonflat ground. By this assumption, we deal with an axillary symmetrical structure so we use the cylindrical 2D-FDTD to save the simulation memory and time, dramatically. ...
